she's dressed in the dark black of the city guard, her hair pinned up and a sparkling brooch at her cloak, though her fingers are already toying with it as she speaks. )

I see that our numbers have grown greater. My name is Diana of Themyscira, and I bid you all welcome, both faces old and new. If you need aide during your displacement, then I offer what knowledge I have. You need but ask.

( that said, it's not exactly why she's here, though her note is just as important with so many more that might need to learn how to protect themselves. )

It has come to my attention that there are many in our midst that know little in the way of defense. Or, perhaps not enough, in a world with so many dangers lingering just out of sight. It troubles me to think that there are those that may not know how to protect themselves, especially if they possess a desire to learn.

( which brings her to her purpose, an important one at that. Diana seems gifted at finding herself a purpose. )

I am an amazon, well trained in the art of war. Archery, swordplay, use of a shield, riding, hand to hand, more. If there are those that would learn, I would be happy to show what I know. It will not be simple, and the training will be difficult. Still, if you would learn, I will make you an amazon. This is more than a style of defense, it is a family. You will gain both if you learn from me.

I would say that's so. We will always be stronger if we work together, that is something my people believe very strongly. ( she pauses as she considers the comparison. ) I would say amazons are similar to knights, certainly. We were made by Zeus to protect humanity, and knights swear vows and oaths to protect those who need it. Different means to a similar end.

Tina has an aversion to the devices they're given, but seeing as there are no owls and she avoids using her magic wherein possible sometimes it's all they have to contact people. [That seems odd given what she knows of amazons, but she doubts the woman will use such determining factors as gender when she's shown to want to embrace the refugee community in togetherness before on the network.] I'm not unequipped in self-defense, not in my own way.

My aunt always started in defensive maneuvers. With a staff, or a shield. From there you move on to bracing your own offense.

More skilled students might be able to start at swordplay or archery.

[ To say Èowyn isn't used to technology such as these phones would be a pretty horrible understatement. But seeing as how so many seem to use this invisible network to communicate, she makes the effort to learn -- though it isn't easy. Through many a trial and error (and kind help from people far more familiar with the device) she finally gets the hang of this enough to respond, similarly not even bothering to try the texting feature. The Rohirrim always favored words face-to-face over writing to faceless receivers.

It takes a moment as she orients the phone, the picture jumping and jarring before stilling on Èowyn, slightly off-center still but steady enough. Her expression is somewhat staid but there's a keenness in her gaze that reveals her passion for the cause. ]

I would help with this quest, if I may.

[ Diana very much speaks her language in every way that counts. To prove her own abilities and to protect others are the very things Èowyn most wants out of life. ]

I was myself a shieldmaiden in my own land, trained rigorously in sword and shield. I have learned the ways of bow and spear whilst on horseback also, though my skill with each is less than that with blade, I think. As for riding, you could not find horsemen and -women more skilled in Middle-earth as the Rohirrim were, our horses as dear to us as kin.

[ Her expression loses some of its pride, softening with self-awareness. She is hardly so arrogant as to think she has nothing left to learn. ]

I would gladly learn more myself, and share what knowledge I already have. I shall have to wait until my shield-arm fully heals for some of it, but I would do what I can until then.

There should be little that can threaten you in the safety of your lodging, no more than it may have at home. And the streets are not free of crime, so take care.

We have met a small number. There are many creatures in the wild, and many of them dangerous. Especially the creatures in the woods between the outpost and the place we landed on arrival.
