[ How do you handle emotional situations? John has no idea. He misses his friends, after all, and if this person is about to tell him how much they miss theirs then he is probably going to end up awkward. Also, he is definitely going to say the wrong thing. What if he... tries to channel Teyla? Maybe? ]

[ ... Maybe a stupid question, but it's leading. John contextually has no idea how many of this person's friends are here and how many aren't. Are they even all rescued? John isn't 100% still on if the Natha actually rescue everyone. ]

I think, home is not so much a 'where' as it is a 'whom'.

[This was also a conversation he had once before, so very many years ago. Perhaps that was why, for once, he had felt compelled to reply.]

Someone else told me something similar. That home's what you love, even if you can never go back. It got me wondering how many people really think of this place as their home now.

[This is an interesting question, and one that Ianto thinks he knows the answer to up until he attempts to write a response. Which is about the point in time when he realizes he's not certain that he's had anything to call home for quite some time now. Not since the Daleks and the Cybermen showed up and tore his world apart. Maybe not even before that.

He'd always felt like a black sheep, living with his parents. Especially with his father, who never seemed to be happy with who he was or the choices he'd made. Yvonne had found a use for him, but that's a far cry from giving him a place to call home. Certainly not in London, with his sad little apartment he'd had to share with a roommate who barely even knew him. And for all his time at Torchwood Three, he'd been invisible, then he'd been despised, and just when he'd done his best to find his footing the world tried to end and the only person who might truly understand him in the world had run off for someone else.

So Ianto isn't certain he should answer this question. He's not sure that he'd be doing it right. But he'll try anyway, because it's John who's asking.]

It makes me think of. Somewhere to belong, yeah?
