Alright, new pop quiz. When you think of home, what do you think of?
[ Open question, which he's not going to expand on unless prompted -- though really he's curious about something specific. Do people consider Olympia or Wyver their home now? Maybe the Natha station? Or do they think of home worlds they've been told no longer exist? ]

[he needs the time to switch over to video, turning the camera to the llama at his side. She is certainly small - perhaps a little over three feet - and he reaches out to ruffle her neck gently, a warm chuckle as she makes a little hum]
Well, this is Lula. She likes to stay close...
Text -> video
It's a miniature llama.
John figures replying back by text would be weird, so he takes a moment to school his expression out of 'intense confusion' to something neutral before letting his own feed snap on. ]
Well, she's certainly cute -- so I figure she gets a pass for being weirdly improbable.
Re: Text -> video
[that amuses him, as he scritches Lula's neck lightly - she leans into it, from where she is kushed by the chair.]
I think that is fair.
[ Shyly - a little ashamed by his own lack of knowledge-]
I had never encountered a llama before - when she hatched I wondered whether she might be some... strange sort of horse, or sheep. Though I knew they didn't come from eggs, of course...

[ Its like a claw machine animal or something only it's alive. Llama out of an egg! ]
Where did you get the egg anyway?
no subject
[he knows it was probably a stupid idea to take in a random egg and hatch it. But he can't really argue with the result...]

Showed up on his doorstep.
Then it hatched into a llama. ]
You know, there are a lot of weird fairy tales that start that way.
[ Or well, usually it's children left on doorsteps. Not... llamas. ]

Well, that seems apt. I have always enjoyed fairytales.
Do you think there might be fairytales with llamas? In some places?
no subject
I can't think of any off the top of my head, but there might be. If not, then I guess you better get to writing some.

[he was never really meant to learn to write in the first place - servants don't necessarily need to know, or to have their time wasted with the instruction.]
I'm not sure anyone would wish a story penned by me. Least of all Lula - I can only imagine I'd be doing her a terrible disservice if I tried...!

[ John bets she'd appreciate just the sound of your voice reading it to her, honestly. ]

[or maybe Linneus is just projecting...? But she can manage commands!]
no subject
[ That's right, ask the llama what she wants Linneus! You know what they say about assuming. ]

I'm sure she'd listen - she seems to know, when someone needs to be listened to. But she only really understands simple commands...
