Log 002 | Butt why? | audio un: NINES
[ He's done his reading. He's lurked around the Red Light district for answers. 9S has seen a lot recently, but he still doesn't know. It's an itch in his mind waiting for a good scratch, but observation and research hasn't quite done the trick. He's got the basics down, he thinks, but it still seems a little too personal to test the waters himself. Being physical with someone like that? He may as well give a stranger his personal decryption codes. He's made friends here and most people aren't so bad, but the vulnerability still bothers him.
9S is more than a little exasperated with wondering. The world, especially a new one like this, is full of so much else yet there's so much focus on that one activity. ]
Why are humans so obsessed with sex? Aren't there more interesting things to do?
[ Phrasing it like that might ease the "why are you so weird?" "i'm an android" part of a conversation, he thinks, but 9S realizes it's strange enough that people will be confused regardless. This was a terrible idea. Where's the delete function on this thing, anyway?
Sigh.]
At least it's not war, I guess.
[ Always a positive. ]

Sex is as critical to humans as eating and drinking and sleeping.
Going without it for too long, once one has reached the appropriate age, results in a slow and painful death.
It's only natural that humans might come across as a bit obsessed when it's a matter of survival.
[rose stop fucking with the robot.]

An interesting comment. Not the obsession that humans have about sex, but that it isn't about war. Of all the things to decide that it's better for them to talk about, you chose that -- and so that makes me wonder if war is all that humans spoke about where you came from? And the phrase "humans" rather than "people," equally intriguing word choice.
However, to answer your inquiry as it is rude to ask a question when one is asking a question, it comes down to loneliness. Humanity is a social society. Affirmation on one's love, affection, sense of self, the laundry list can go on... is gifted through conversation, yes, but also through the physical.
But in the end, I would say ... humans are now but a few hundred on this planet. The obsession comes from a fear of being alone and desire to feel connected to their own race, or their own sense of agency since theirs was taken away due to the unfortunate circumstances that brought us here in the first place. Whether that is right or not is hardly for me to say, as I am also human.
no subject
I'll admit though... I'm still getting used to all the different races around here. [ Aliens not hellbent on taking over the planet is kinda new.
He takes a moment to ponder the next part. While 9S doesn't want to admit how lonely he is, physical comfort makes a whole lot of sense. An overwhelming amount of sense. ]
I suppose as an android, I don't normally seek out that kind of connection. There was always the network. [ And a dodgy bit of YoRHa programming. ] People do strange things when they're worried, I guess. [ Like ask a population oddly personal questions. ]

[Personally Phoenix came with the mindset that not all humans were obsessed with sexual relationships... Just a large chunk of them. After all, people came with many different ideals and opinions on the matter.]
I suppose a bit of it has to do with instinct. Like many animals, there is still a part of us that, in baser function, urges us to reproduce and carry on our line to the next generation. Also it feels good I guess. And people are known for indulging if not abusing things that give them pleasure at times.
[Not that he was one to talk. Although he may not have been obsessed with this particular vice there were plenty others that he himself was prone to indulging in.]
no subject
[ Somehow his phrasing seems off. This is not a banner day for the 9S model. ]
I figured instinct was a part of that. Reproduction is necessary for survival of the species and doing something that feels good makes sense. But then you look at this place and there's a whole section of the town just for things related to sex - it just seems like a really big deal.
[ Phoenix's last statement hits home a little too hard, and 9S trails off. What made him happiest, his greatest indulgence, caused him a great deal of pain. ]

I'd say it's pretty obvious why people love sex.

[ The irony here is that none of these things lie on the rather short list of what sincerely entices him, intercourse included.
Not that he's aligned with 9S's perplexed detachment from the act or any abstinence trip. But Dazai uses sex for reasons beyond mindlessly flooding his system with feel-good hormones.
Like everything else in his arsenal- it can be a handy weapon under the right circumstances. ]
I'll let you in on our dirty little secret. [ His smile is practically wolfish. ] Ready?
We're animals.
[ Dazai performs a grandiose shrug as though all of this is obvious. ]
And animals are hard-wired with the instincts to fuck, kill and consume to survive.
no subject
[ Foods that cause a person who eats it physical harm is another one of those really bizarre human mysteries 9S doesn't quite get, but sex seems a little more prominent around here.
Still, he frowns. That's technically accurate, although there was some part of him that really didn't want to believe humans were quite that bad. Programming, maybe. ]
I think humans are a little more complex than that.

Different people have different levels of sex drive, it isn't really good to lump them all together. Some people thrive on it, as on a psychological level they need that contact for satisfaction in their lives, yet other people are actually repulsed with the idea of sex or generally just disinterested. In fact, some people avoid human contact of any kind.
[ A beat, then: ] If you keep hanging out in the wrong areas, your perception of it will be pretty biased.
no subject
Huh. I hadn't really thought about it that way. The need for satisfaction came up in my research, and when it did it tended to be pretty thorough. Some people could be pretty obsessive about it, and the Red Light District itself is, uh, very specific. It's good to know that variety extends the other way - I'll have to do more research on that.
[ He doesn't know what side he falls on. The idea of opening up to someone like that is still pretty daunting, but the affection is much more appealing. He doesn't want to avoid human contact, but his boundaries for it are still pretty undefined. ]

Plus war sucks hardcore. People'd rather be doing something fun than something shitty like war, right?
Why're you askin'?
no subject
[ He's quiet on the latter. Girls? Dudes? Something else? He's fascinated by everything humanoid, so preference isn't yet an issue. The feelings described though - all weird inside and understanding - it's vague but it clicks with 9S pretty quickly. He's always wanted that, especially from 2B. He'd love to find someone who makes him feel like he did when they were working together. Could there be anyone else like that out there?
9S chuckles a bit at the second part. ]
Yeah, war is the worst. Where I came from there was a lot of war, so the difference here is pretty striking.
