Log 002 | Butt why? | audio un: NINES

[ He's done his reading. He's lurked around the Red Light district for answers. 9S has seen a lot recently, but he still doesn't know. It's an itch in his mind waiting for a good scratch, but observation and research hasn't quite done the trick. He's got the basics down, he thinks, but it still seems a little too personal to test the waters himself. Being physical with someone like that? He may as well give a stranger his personal decryption codes. He's made friends here and most people aren't so bad, but the vulnerability still bothers him.

9S is more than a little exasperated with wondering. The world, especially a new one like this, is full of so much else yet there's so much focus on that one activity. ]

Why are humans so obsessed with sex? Aren't there more interesting things to do?

[ Phrasing it like that might ease the "why are you so weird?" "i'm an android" part of a conversation, he thinks, but 9S realizes it's strange enough that people will be confused regardless. This was a terrible idea. Where's the delete function on this thing, anyway?

Sigh.]

At least it's not war, I guess.

[ Always a positive. ]

Some humans might say war counts as one of those "more interesting things".

Any reason for the question?

Are you unfamiliar with the biological needs of humans?
Sex is as critical to humans as eating and drinking and sleeping.
Going without it for too long, once one has reached the appropriate age, results in a slow and painful death.
It's only natural that humans might come across as a bit obsessed when it's a matter of survival.

[ BLAH BLAH BLAH. MONOLOGUING. ]

An interesting comment. Not the obsession that humans have about sex, but that it isn't about war. Of all the things to decide that it's better for them to talk about, you chose that -- and so that makes me wonder if war is all that humans spoke about where you came from? And the phrase "humans" rather than "people," equally intriguing word choice.

However, to answer your inquiry as it is rude to ask a question when one is asking a question, it comes down to loneliness. Humanity is a social society. Affirmation on one's love, affection, sense of self, the laundry list can go on... is gifted through conversation, yes, but also through the physical.

But in the end, I would say ... humans are now but a few hundred on this planet. The obsession comes from a fear of being alone and desire to feel connected to their own race, or their own sense of agency since theirs was taken away due to the unfortunate circumstances that brought us here in the first place. Whether that is right or not is hardly for me to say, as I am also human.

Leaving aside the wars that were started over sex and the wars that were stopped by it, you mean.

Cardio.

Fair. Here's a question, then, for your question: do your kind [-- since he has basically implied he isn't human.] not have sex? Or is procreation some sort of painful and horrific experience for you?

[Like spiders. That was one lesson she didn't ask for and got anyway.]

Ahah, wow, what a heavy question to ask.

[Personally Phoenix came with the mindset that not all humans were obsessed with sexual relationships... Just a large chunk of them. After all, people came with many different ideals and opinions on the matter.]

I suppose a bit of it has to do with instinct. Like many animals, there is still a part of us that, in baser function, urges us to reproduce and carry on our line to the next generation. Also it feels good I guess. And people are known for indulging if not abusing things that give them pleasure at times.

[Not that he was one to talk. Although he may not have been obsessed with this particular vice there were plenty others that he himself was prone to indulging in.]

We've all just lost a lot. Sex is a pretty common way people deal with loss and death.

Also, no, there pretty much isn't anything else interesting to do. Pick a fight with someone, or get laid.

I would much rather people were having sex than starting wars, but that's just me.

Someone let their toddler use their phone.

I'd say it's pretty obvious why people love sex.

You sound like you're thirteen, why are you talking about adult topics like it's the weather?

But I don't know what's worse: you asking the people who are genuinely answering you.

A couple. Troy, notably.

Well, once you remove the entertainment value and procreation that's all it really is.
