This has been bothering me for a little while....

Back on my world there was a tyrant who was overthrown and killed. Before he died, he told the person who took him down "by killing me, you have doomed yourself." We never know exactly what he meant but then all of this happens. I just want to know if--

["if this is my fault" but she holds that back. There's a pause for a second or two before she continues.]

I want to know if anybody else here was warned about the end of your world. If there was any way to have seen this coming.

My master was trying to remake the galaxy in his image. Anything living would have died in the process. Sometimes I wonder if he succeeded but somehow missed this place.

[Now there's an unhappy thought. She's only really learning terms like that, "galaxy", but she's worked out enough to understand that a galaxy is big. A power on that scale....]

I hope it was at least a nice image.

Yes, the Grimm. And people trying to control them.

But I guess that doesn't matter now.

I don't think anyone could have quite foreseen this. From what I can tell of those that have been here and the many still left above, there are too many... universes or realities for it to have been something as simple as the act of one or even one world. Universes were decimated. All by a single Storm that winds through all of them. In the many ways that life was ruined, I can't believe that there were ways to stop it, or to foresee the ending when it's so chaotic and all encompassing.

Maybe not all of them, but just one.

There were stories of the world being saved in the past, nobody even remembered what from, but they were there. If there was a way to stop it on one world, maybe it could be stopped on others.

And because it was saved once in one world, you think that should extend to all times in all realms?

I can't say that I'm pleased to find that my entire world, my lineage, is all gone. That the world I knew is no more, nor is that entire universe. That all those lives have been snuffed forever while I still stand. But it does no good to anyone, least of all yourself, to pine for what could have been when this is the hand we have been dealt. Perhaps this is the 'what if'. Perhaps this is the world that has been saved. And here we are.

Right before the Storm hit my planet, I was about to enjoy a cup of black coffee, to go with the Fettuccine Alfredo I had ordered at Tonio's Restaurant. [ why is he ... saying all this. ] What I mean to say is -- No. There was absolutely no warning, and I never got to try my pasta.

So not every world got a warning. If that was what he was even talking about....

It came with crayfish and clams, freshly caught from Morioh Beach. I haven't had a meal as good since coming here, but it's fine. Not like I care.

So, are you trying to say this tyrant of yours could have known about what was to come?

Which was the unclear part? "Genocidal planet," "cosmic entity," or "almost killed me and my entire team." One of those is very simple to explain, but if you still don't get it, then there ain't no helpin' explaining the other two.

Mine always threatened to end but would somehow manage to stubbornly spin on. If anyone predicted the Storm, I never caught wind of it. I wish I had.

I suppose that mine was at least stable if awful. I just wondered if there had been some kind of some that we missed.

Unless we're all treated to another set of memories of our time at home, I doubt we'll ever know for certain. But dwelling on the past is no way to live.

That's what I thought as well, at first. But even before this happened, it felt like there was something wrong about it.

It could just be a coincidence I suppose but it all felt too sudden.

Just what do you hope to accomplish with that knowledge? Are you going to build a time machine, travel back, and prevent it from ever happening?

I wasn't planning on it.

[Honestly, this world's much nicer than the one she came from anyway.]

But if there's signs that we can predict maybe we could do something to stop it from happening again.
