This has been bothering me for a little while....

Back on my world there was a tyrant who was overthrown and killed. Before he died, he told the person who took him down "by killing me, you have doomed yourself." We never know exactly what he meant but then all of this happens. I just want to know if--

["if this is my fault" but she holds that back. There's a pause for a second or two before she continues.]

I want to know if anybody else here was warned about the end of your world. If there was any way to have seen this coming.

That's what I thought as well, at first. But even before this happened, it felt like there was something wrong about it.

It could just be a coincidence I suppose but it all felt too sudden.

You have a few choices. You can believe that somehow this man knew what was coming. You can believe that some magical spell was put into place when he said those words and he cause it to happen. Or you can believe it was a coincidence.

[There's a small pause to let her think about those choices.]

Which one seems most likely?

[A pause that she does take to think the choices over. She really does.]

I think writing things off as coincidence too quickly is dangerous.

And here people suggest I'm paranoid.

Being paranoid doesn't mean you're wrong.

The question then becomes who's to blame? I doubt your tyrant had anything to do with my world or the rest getting destroyed.

I don't think he did it. He wasn't a god, as much as he wanted us to believe it, but I want to know what he knew. If he really did know anything at all.

It's interesting how many people either want to be a god or pass themselves off as one. It's a set up for failure.

Is he still around to ask one day?

From what I've seen now it only seems to work out until people find something new to believe in.

[And then all it takes is one night.]

He isn't. He was killed the same night his regime fell.

No answers then, but you can count yourself lucky that he won't wake up and try the same on this world. Not everyone can say that.

Lucky....

[That's a relative term to be sure, but she supposes it's correct enough.]

Even if he did, he wouldn't have all the power he did right away. And I'd know how to stop him this time.
