[ Sand doesn't do anything rashly, including introducing himself to the world at large. He's not a front end sort of guy; he does his best work in the shadows, providing information or strategy, using his skills to buy others time to pull off the big plays. It'd taken a little time to learn that, but once the lesson was learned, he'd taken it to heart. But there are some things he is good at, good at leading on, and since he hasn't seen anything on the topic, he decides that this is worth him dipping his toe into the water, finally. ]
My name is Sanderson Hawkins. Most folks would know me as Sand, if anyone here really knew me. I'm from a version of Earth, and while I've been bopping around our new shared homeworld, I've been thinking.
We don't know what the future holds. We don't know how long the people we care about might be in stasis, what could happen to us, and some of us aren't even sure who they're going to be in this brave new world. But we know who we were. We know what we came from, the stories we grew up with, the histories and the legacies we hold within us. The magical or the scientific or even the social advances that our worlds managed. And while I know we're all trying to move forward, there's nothing that says we can't look back and use what strengths we already have at our fingertips to make things better, for ourselves and for everyone. Or even just keep them for future generations.
I've always lived my life by two ideals: the first, 'adapt or die', well... I'm sure we've all got a little of that in us, or we wouldn't be here. The second, though, is that while you shouldn't be trapped by the past, it's important to remember it, honor it, and keep alive the people and the events that made you who you are.
So I guess what I'm saying here is that I'd like to know if anyone's interested in trying to record our histories, the histories of our worlds, our families, our stories, the knowledge we have to give... whatever you feel comfortable with. Keep them for the ones to come or for whoever wakes up after us or... or whoever is willing to listen. Our worlds... well, it looks like they're gone, at least for the moment. And I know I'm not the only one keeping hope alive that that could change. But I also think there's nothing wrong with making the effort we can to hold onto them. To keep the best parts of them for the future.
Because I have to believe there's a future.
...if someone else is already on this idea, I'm happy to shut my yap, but I didn't see anything recently and I do think it's important enough to waves my arms on. And I'm definitely up for ideas on best to implement this, if we should take items or documents or what have you.
Message me here if you're interested in taking part or helping out or if you think I'm a whack job. Whatever you want.
