they're like facial expressions for texts because people can't see your face if you're texting them ┐( ̄ヮ ̄)┌
you can also make them with just symbols like this -u- ;o; ^^;
which are called kaomoji
or if you have the right keyboard you can make complicated ones like this instead
o((*^▽^*))o (ノ^ヮ^)ノ*:・゚✧ ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Is reading faces needed on writing letters?
😷And what is this picture meant to be?

also if someone says something rude in text it's hard to tell if it's serious or a joke without something like that...
hmm
that looks like a sick mask
so i guess a sick person? \| ̄ヘ ̄|/

So like, I say: "hey man, how're you doing"
You could say: "Not good. I'm confused."
OR!
You could just send a: 👎
Easy!

I suppose it is. But some of these emojis you called them don't make much sense to me. What was this supposed to be?

I'm guessing $ doesn't mean money where you're from?

And they're new to me too, but I believe they're like hieroglyphs, or picture writing. Like you'd find on walls the Far West, or the old Aronian empire. But some of their meanings remain unclear. Like the words of hesitant lovers, alas.

It seems a good deal of people manage to figure out their meaning.

Pretty damn weird aren't they? Also, really useful when you don't want to use words.
It's also hilarious if your the type of person who most others wouldn't expect to use such things, though.
My personal favorite is this one: 🔫

[ audio (un: k.jones) ; pardon the lateness but they're too salty sea men ]
They're emojis.
[ Emma's son is old enough to irritate Killian with these bloody things. ]
I bloody well hate the buggers.
