[ lily potter has had something of a jarring entrance into el nysa, and has remained relatively quiet since her arrival. she's spent most of the time with her ragtag family in some sort of attempt to parse through everything that had happened. and, honestly -- lily hasn't managed to do that. she isn't entirely sure whether or not she could ever do that.

but sitting around and doing nothing is also definitely not her style. she needs to be proactive, to find her spot in this new world. get information, learn how to adapt and survive, and try to get through everything that has happened.

even in times of peace, war is still the predominating factor in how she tries to analyze what in the actual hell has happened.

so lily (a young twenty-something-year-old with a huge amount of red hair and green eyes) presents as tired, but with color in her cheeks and a brightness in her eyes. she's noticed some people have been asking for jobs, and lily knows that she needs to do that eventually, too -- but to introduce herself to her new community of ... well, refugees, lily figured something a little less to-the-point was more appropriate.

information is needed. and in this world, there are so many different people, people who are living openly, that it doesn't seem that magic is so taboo here as it is in the muggle world back home. it's almost refreshing, really, but it also leads lily to a question: ]

This entire world is miraculous, isn't it?

I'm new, here -- I'm sure a lot of other people are going to say the same thing in the coming weeks, and I know people who have been here for longer than I have are probably tired of the questions. [ tough shit is what she wants to say, but ah well. ] My name is Lily, and I come from a world where there are a lot of different types of people, too. I'm not sure how many skills or talents I have that will be useful to any of you, but I do want to know -- how many of you believe in, or practice, magic?

[ that's it. that's her question. but after figuring that that blunt question might lead the suspicious to not really want to answer, she continues. it's a risk, and it feels odd saying it -- but after seeing so many different people, and watching the network closely, she figures it's a risk that could probably pay off in spades: ]

It is my understanding that magic is commonplace in this world. [It's what runs through their wires like electricity, what powers their appliances and allows this very network to function. Yaha-kui zaShunina himself has no mastery of magic, though what he can do could be mistaken for it (and has been by natives).]

It's... well, it isn't commonplace in my world, but it definitely isn't out in the open. There are people with magic, and people without. The wizards and witches, and the Muggles.

We keep it hidden to avoid scaring people, so that may be why people . . . keep it secret, I suppose. I only did this because I saw other people performing magic in the open, and I assumed I wouldn't be burned at the stake.

[He usually relies more on his physical strength than on his magical talents for a reason… mainly that magic may or may not have caused him… incidents when he started out with it. Trouble of being mostly self-taught, the only way you find out you are doing it wrong is by letting it explode in your face.]

[ It is her understanding that there are worlds represented here that do not have magic, as difficult as that is to imagine, but this woman is clearly capable of it or would not make this offer. ]

good to know that james, as always, is apparently bomb proof. ]

[ her kneejerk reflex is to reply immediately, driven by skepticism and amazement in equal measure, but clary has the sense to study the replies to lily's broadcast before engaging. her concern isn't assuaged by much, defensiveness still present, though she tries not to let her accusatory thoughts bleed through into her expression when she pointedly flips on the video feed she tends to reserve for diana only.

they don't look the exactly the same. lily's eyes are a more startling green than clary's, to say nothing of the lack of runes on lily that decorate clary's own like black ink. that doesn't mean she isn't a little visibly startled, a little prone to bristling. ]

Is that your real face?

[ her tone is level, in spite of the mess her thoughts have become. she thinks of michael wayland, of the ease in which valentine had worn the face of jace's father in order to manipulate a young boy. it wouldn't surprise her if he was here now, taunting her by parading around with her face, but it's too odd for valentine to take her face and claim it belongs to another woman. that small mention edmund had made of her to lily and the reply given is too telling.

not valentine, then, but she isn't retracting the question. it still feels important to know, though she can already guess at lily's answer. ]
