[ lily potter has had something of a jarring entrance into el nysa, and has remained relatively quiet since her arrival. she's spent most of the time with her ragtag family in some sort of attempt to parse through everything that had happened. and, honestly -- lily hasn't managed to do that. she isn't entirely sure whether or not she could ever do that.
but sitting around and doing nothing is also definitely not her style. she needs to be proactive, to find her spot in this new world. get information, learn how to adapt and survive, and try to get through everything that has happened.
even in times of peace, war is still the predominating factor in how she tries to analyze what in the actual hell has happened.
so lily (a young twenty-something-year-old with a huge amount of red hair and green eyes) presents as tired, but with color in her cheeks and a brightness in her eyes. she's noticed some people have been asking for jobs, and lily knows that she needs to do that eventually, too -- but to introduce herself to her new community of ... well, refugees, lily figured something a little less to-the-point was more appropriate.
information is needed. and in this world, there are so many different people, people who are living openly, that it doesn't seem that magic is so taboo here as it is in the muggle world back home. it's almost refreshing, really, but it also leads lily to a question: ]
This entire world is miraculous, isn't it?
[ literally. figuratively. metaphorically. she's breathing, isn't she? ]
I'm new, here -- I'm sure a lot of other people are going to say the same thing in the coming weeks, and I know people who have been here for longer than I have are probably tired of the questions. [ tough shit is what she wants to say, but ah well. ] My name is Lily, and I come from a world where there are a lot of different types of people, too. I'm not sure how many skills or talents I have that will be useful to any of you, but I do want to know -- how many of you believe in, or practice, magic?
[ that's it. that's her question. but after figuring that that blunt question might lead the suspicious to not really want to answer, she continues. it's a risk, and it feels odd saying it -- but after seeing so many different people, and watching the network closely, she figures it's a risk that could probably pay off in spades: ]
I'll show you mine if you show me yours.
[ lily potter will make ice sculptures out of rain puddles all day if it means someone will give her something to do, thanks. ]

possibly imagining the look on lucius malfoy's garbage face at the news that the great and powerful merlin wasn't a pureblooded wizard.
she has questions -- concerning that whole dragonlord bit, but -- ]
I'm the only person in my family that has magic, too. It's not uncommon, where I come from. We call them 'Muggleborns' -- people who have magic, but their parents have none. My husband is a pureblooded wizard, everyone in his family has magic. It's something you're born with, in my world, but some folks are more particular concerning their imaginary social status than others.
[ she pauses, again. ]
What does a Dragonlord do, aside from... hang around dragons?

A sorcerer is a sorcerer is a sorcerer, as far as I'm concerned. Either you have magic or you don't—some people can only manage a single spell, but that's something.
[Of course, the druids and half the sorcerers he meets kind of idolize him, but it's not a big deal. Magic is magic!!]
As for Dragonlords, that's... about the whole of it. Talk to them, help with the eggs, make friends. That last one's the hard part, considering all the giant attitude.
no subject
Some people are too thickheaded to grasp that.
[ mildly enough. lily showed them.
but anyway: ] Making friends? With dragons? [ that bit seems more incredible than the whole 'merlin' thing. ] Have you managed to do that, then? I can't imagine getting even remotely close to one, let alone charming it into liking me very much.
no subject
I wouldn't say I charmed him. [More like shouted at him until he felt more agreeable, but details.] It was more like scolding a big child for a while.

I've never heard of someone being able to actually talk to dragons before... there are some stories about talking with animals, but it takes a very special type of person and gift to do that. Dragons, though -- well. I'm sorry to hear you had a childish one to convince.
[ what a world. ]
The Ministry of Magic would be over the moon to have someone like you in their staff, I'm sure.
no subject
[Fortunately, considering dragons aren't very flexible once they're old and crochety. Or ever.]
There's a ministry?
no subject
[ with a casual shrug ]
It works like the typical English parliament, for the most part, but the different departments and cabinets are specialized for magic.
no subject
I'm afraid I'm only familiar with the tyrannical kings kind of government.
no subject
[ voldemort is literally the dumbest piece of shit merlin let her tell you a story ]
The tyrannical types of kings died out a long time ago, though the Muggles -- we still have a Queen.
no subject
Well, that's good for them. So your Ministry is just... sorcerers in a court?
no subject
[ all in all a very vague system that jk rowling didn't really flesh out at all but we'll forgive her ]
no subject
Dragon Corps?
no subject
[ somewhat mischievously. and she is definitely joking.
but soon after that: ]
I don't properly understand a lot of what they do, but dragons were used in the Great War ages ago. And now, dragons are studied and protected -- they're an endangered species, in some parts of the world. A lot of their parts are considered valuable, especially in potions and wand making.

[He tries to say this like it's a simple fact and not something horrific, just like he's trying not to look too disgusted about the idea of using parts of a dragon for anything. As much as it works; he really can't undo the fact that he has a face like an open book, but details. He's been getting angry at unsuspecting people about dragons too much, lately, so-]
I don't know why you lot insist on using wands. I've been around magic, and only a few people seem to bother with anything like that. Staves, usually.
