[Video] Seeking skilled mechanic - UN: Crusaser08

[The message opens up to a rather large older man. He sits in some living room in the housing district. Behind him sits a very very large suit of armor. It's clearly seen much better days. In fact, it looks like it's being held together by duct tape and gum..and is that a hubcap welded in to patch it? Probably.

He looks very serious as he starts his message.]

Hallo. I am Reinhardt Wilhelm. And I am in need of a person with mechanical know-how. As you see, my armor has seen many battles and if it comes to it, I would like to ensure that it sees many more. The young lady who helped me maintain it in the past...my squire...she... well, she's still asleep. Which means that I am short a valuable person.

I would like to take on a squire. A person that can help me maintain my armor. Fix it when I break it and assist in fixing me when I break me. They must have both skill in forging, metallurgy, repairs as well as know some electronics and a small bit of rocket science. [ Yep. Still totally serious about that too ] My biggest requirement is that whoever helps me with my armor has a heart that loves justice and a willingness to help the people for little or no monetary rewards.

If anyone fits the bill, please inquire within and we can discuss further.

I don't know anything about metalworking or fixing armor, but if you've got any cybernetics in there I could give tinkering with them a shot. Fixed up my own arm pretty good when it wasn't looking so hot.

It's cybernetic, for the record. Just in case it seemed like I was talking about a regular one.

I can do almost all of those things, but I'm wholly against indentured servitude.

Indentured servitude? I don't understand your meaning. My former mechanic was with me because she wished to be. She went of her own will and by her choice. She could have left at any time. She did not. Instead, she came with me and we adventured together.

The life of a knight errant doesn't pay well, but we got by. I would live that life here as well. But I am in need of someone to fix my armor. At the moment, I have little to pay with. Once I start adventuring, I may still have little to pay with.

I suppose that is a deal breaker? Unless you offer senior discounts. [ and boy does he hate writing those last two words so much. ]

[Rocket doesn't know whether to start laughing or just keep staring at the message with uncertainty.]

I'm sorry. I just keep getting stuck on the "knight errant" part, and everything after that just becomes hard to follow.

You know. A knight errant. A man of justice and honor who goes from place to place righting wrongs and protecting the innocent. That is what I did before I came here. That is what I want to do again. So I need to know that my armor will keep going, just a little bit longer.

It's just that a knight does not ask money for his endeavors. So I wouldn't be able to pay you what your skills are likely worth. I could only give you what I have and hope that it is enough.

It's mostly analog. There is some wiring and things in there for the booster on back. Stabilizers and what not. I'd let you at least take a look as see what you think can be done to keep it going just a little longer.

Aw, shucks. I totally fit the bill, except being called a squire sounds pretty lame.

Old? I'll have you know I am only 61 years old! And once, when I was younger, I was in those magazines. And on posters! I was very popular! [ He looks proud of that. He probably shouldn't be, but yeah, the Crusaders totally had a lot of PR back in the day.]

It's all right though. Your heart is in the right place. I want more than anything to be able to help those who need it. So should I find anyone in need and need help with that, I will be more than willing to call you in for assistance, young miss.

Sure! Sounds good. How "advanced" is it? I mean I assume it is since you have armour with thrusters on it but most people here barely understand what ECHOs are. Backwater planets are so weird.

It's not lame. Being squire is an important step you take right before knighthood. But if I'm not to call the person to take care of my armor and assist me that, what should I call them?

I wouldn't want to encroach on your job. But I would indeed appreciate someone at least taking a look at it. I know a lot about my armor, but I don't know what the...journey...might have done to it. A professional opinion on it's status would go a long way.

Well, I don't think it's that advanced, but I would love to have you look at it and make sure everything is on line and working right.

I did...do. Her name is Brigitte. She is a member of the Ironclad Guild. One of their youngest to date. She's in her mid-20s. I think we just celebrated her 25th last year. She's sleeping still, but I am sure once she wakes, she would love to speak to like minded people. Talk shop as it were. She didn't get much in the way of that from me. That stuff goes right over my head most of the time and my best friend was a master mechanic.

You call me old. And if I am three times your age, that makes you...20? To me, that is a young miss! So what I am supposed to do? Sit here and take being called old? I think not.

So we make a deal. You call me Reinhardt and I call you Jolyne and we'll have no more of this old and young thing, ja?

That would be wonderful. You can at least help me look it over and I'd be happy to teach you about the alloy that was used for this.

My armor is currently in residence at House 33.

I didn't think anybody did anything without expecting to be paid for it, unless it was just personal justice that's got nothing to do with righting wrongs beyond the ones done to them. This is new for me.

My friend, justice and virtue is it's own reward. The smiles of the children you have saved is more than payment enough. I do not need money for my endeavors. For me, I live well in the knowledge that the villagers I help can live good and safe lives. There is no reward greater than that.
