Soooo... this whole jobs thing...
It's not as easy as it seems, right? I know we're suppose to work our asses off to make sure they keep the people in Thesa safe, but — has anyone had experience working with something like... that? Guards, scholars, and uh... adult workers.... It all sounds like some weird characters from a fantasy novel or something. Cliche, but given the past few weeks? Totally legit.

I guess I'm wanting to ask: how are you knowing you're a good "fit" for one of these jobs? Back home, I was...

[ She wants to say model, but she doesn't really give the deets too much. ]

Let's just say the closest I got to any of these kind of jobs were reading Shakespeare in school.

Well, it's probably less boring than going around and watching stuff all the time. That's kinda what I did back in my world. It helped the combat units, but it wasn't all that exciting most of the time.

Reconnaissance, actually. With the war, some of us had to gather information on the enemy while the others fought. I could support too, but I'm not as good in battle.

[ Hopefully that's not all that suspicious. It's just a job, right? ]

Hey, that's pretty awesome! I had a few friends who kinda surveyed the scene like that. We'd be dead twenty times over without them! Sounds like a pretty important job for you then.

[ She says with some actual fondness. ]

Thanks! It was really important, but not as flashy as other units sometimes.

It still served a purpose, you know? Take that out and there's a problem. Flashiness isn't always the best - especially when you have a job to do.

You have a point there. My work made it a lot easier for my partner and I to get the hard stuff done during the war. I liked that part of it more than the violence anyway.

[ Mostly. It's Complicated. ]

Wow... that sounds really tough. I can't imagine - like... this? Despite how some people believe we are being prepped for war, it doesn't feel like it. We still have most of our freedoms, but back home war meant something different.

So - uh, sorry you had to deal with that and the violence.

It was. [ Even he can't hide how much he hated it. ] This place hardly feels like war at all. Maybe the Natha are involved in something like that, down here? It's so peaceful in comparison.

As long as Shiho is safe in the pods, if a war breaks out - I'll have to give it my all. There's reasons we keep fighting, you know? I hope I don't either, but if it's just another thing to fight for... I gotta.

[ He pauses. Things are different here and no one really knows his situation. She doesn't have to know about 2B - if no one does, she might be safer - but she's also not afraid to admit she's fighting for someone. He should be so brave. ]

I feel the same way. They managed to save 2B, so I'll do whatever it takes to stop anyone who tries to fight them.

[ Though he's a tad bitter they didn't ask for his help before the Descent. ]

...Yeah. [ She doesn't pry further on who 2B really is, but she knows for sure: they're important. ] Let's just hope it doesn't come to that.
