we don't have kings where i'm from. there's an emperor but he doesn't rule anything anymore.

well. we have a group of people who are in charge. they make decisions together by consensus.

they get chosen by everyone who lives in a country. so in each area the people choose the guy they think is the best and he joins that group.

[he really has no idea, he can't vote yet and politics is boring]

he's still the emperor, right? his ancestors ruled japan for thousands of years before democracy came along

If the emperor had mad children, I assume the people would rise up and kill them. It's been done before.

I simply wonder why an emperor is needed at all if he makes no decisions of his own.

i guess he's like a figurehead? he reminds us that just because we're modern now doesn't mean that all our history didn't happen

also he's part of our country? ever since the emperors unified all the tribes into a country we had an emperor. he can't just not be emperor?? it's not like a job
