How come I have to have a "silver turd" and a "blind dude" as roommates? They both suck!
Who came up with this idea? This is stupid.

Might kick them out. They're too noisy.

Does anyone even like their roommates? Mine are annoying. Let's do a trade.

( Oh. So a little like what she'd left the Seconds Sons to preside over in Meereen. )

So he never oversees and enacts his will through this group? It sounds as though he is answerable to them instead.

( Which is a totally foreign concept. )

the emperor??
yeah he doesn't do anything these days
everyone still really respects him.

If he does nothing, then why is he given that title?

( This is flabbergasting. )

That sounds needlessly complicated - but also interesting.

[omg why are you making him remember all this politics stuff that he cares 0% about]

he's still the emperor, right? his ancestors ruled japan for thousands of years before democracy came along

it works, you know? what if the emperor has a kid who's an idiot? or what if he's crazy and does things that'll get people killed?

( Because she cares 100 000 000% about politics and stuff. )

If the emperor had mad children, I assume the people would rise up and kill them. It's been done before.

( She speaks from experience. )

I simply wonder why an emperor is needed at all if he makes no decisions of his own.

[it's hard to convey the feelings nakatsu has about the emperor, simply because he's never given it much thought]

i guess he's like a figurehead? he reminds us that just because we're modern now doesn't mean that all our history didn't happen

also he's part of our country? ever since the emperors unified all the tribes into a country we had an emperor. he can't just not be emperor?? it's not like a job

[personal profile] jelmazmo 2017-07-24 08:11 am (UTC)(link)
Interesting. Is it known how he feels on that score?

( She's heard of this Japan from another, a land where the populace at large is not merely literate but also educated. It's impressive, to say the least. But its system of government is rather confusing. If consensus among the people works, why is a ruler who doesn't rule needed?

Nakatsu's reply doesn't wholly explain that to her. )

I don't disagree; but having both and not one or the other makes little sense to me. It is not a job; it's a duty, a responsibility—as well as a right.

( One in which she's failed on a colossal scale. )

man, i don't know! i don't pay attention to all the stuff in school because it's boring

we have a bunch of politicians who make decisions and an emperor who does emperor stuff! like. cultural things! it works!!!

[he can't help you, Dany. he doesn't care enough to know all these things]
