Has anyone found a pod containing someone that was supposed to be dead? That they knew to be dead.

( river asks more out of curiosity than anything, out of trying to understand and gain more knowledge on the pods, on who and how they were brought here. she also can't deny that small piece of hope that comes with the question, of wanting to see someone that she couldn't (shouldn't) be able to see again )

I hope you're right, even if I don't know him. No one should have to sleep their life away like the people in the pods. I hope my friend wakes up, too.

The universe is a big place and not every species is so friendly.

Space travel is very common when I'm from.

Huh. Where I'm from, most people don't even know other worlds exist. We had to keep it a secret when we visited them.

No. It may be the same thing with a different name, though. I call it the vortex.

That could be it. It look a little like a vortex, when I call it. Except it only takes me about a block away here.

Normally I can take it all the way to other worlds. That's how we got around.

Here, though...it goes maybe a block.

So something is blocking your capabilities-- and you do this yourself? Or do you use a device?

( she's never seen anyone do it without a device. she's used two different ones, both operating with similar principles )

Just me. I had to learn how to do it, but it wasn't hard. At least, it didn't used to be. I don't know why it doesn't work right anymore.

Likely for the same reason why I can't get an accurate position on our temporal coordinates.

( her sense is being blocked. she knows they're somewhere, that it's not where or when she was previously but where and when exactly-- no idea. she'll definitely brush this off as using a scanning device that isn't working, though )

Something is blocking contact or reach beyond this planet, even across it. Something dampening biological, and technological, capabilities.
