[Is this not about a medical thing, this time? Seems so. Claire's a bit more relaxed than she usually is when using the network, and it might have something to do with that glass of wine in front of her.]

It's my fifty-first birthday this weekend. Do I win the award for most elderly amongst us refugees?

It's hard to believe I was in my late twenties when I first came to Olympia. Stasis is... strange, to say the least, but I'm sure any of us here for an amount of time realize that.

[Now, let's see who's going to be a smartass and make a grandma comment. She's waiting. It's there, in her smile. Do it.]

I admit I often forget that some people must come from places where fifty is a drop in the pond, or there are... immortals, or... things that seem impossible, in my world.

Medicine has come a long way in my time, and people have learned how to care for themselves better in order to ensure that they live long, full, and healthy lives.

[ or stubbornly extended lives, as is the case with admiral mccoy, who has kept on living well past the accepted length of a human lifespan. ]

The only true immortal I'm familiar with is an omnipotent, nonlinear, noncorporeal being and I highly doubt that counts. [ q never counts. ]

So I've heard. I feel a little medieval, sometimes, and I'm from 1968.

[It's all absurd when she thinks about it. She laughs, softly.]

You know more than I do, even if that doesn't count in your books.

I did some time in the late 20th Century once, but I'm originally from the year 2374.

[ which in turn leaves her feeling a little too ahead of the times, like she's walking at a brisker pace than most of the people here and struggles with finding a way to slow down and walk in step with them. ]

Only by virtue of humanity getting out there and exploring the galaxy. There's a lot I wouldn't know had mankind not reached the stars.

Did some time? That sounds like a prison sentence more than... I don't know, time travel?

[Ha. Time travel. Claire's still never going to like talking about that one, but she's curious.]

It wasn't a prison sentence, but it wasn't necessarily a pleasant experience — not because of the century itself so much as the circumstances surrounding why and how I was there and what had to be done in order to return to my own time.

[ time travel is something she's done more often than she cares to admit. the department of temporal investigations was going to have a field day with her during the inevitable debriefings when/if they got back to earth. ]
