I feel like every time I use this thing it's something like this, isn't it?

[Claire's in front of the camera that's set on something, just so she can step back and motion at what once was her up-and-coming clinic. It still is, but... the holes in the ceiling and that collapsed wall that sent her medicine cabinet to the floor is a bit of a set back.

At least the roof isn't about to cave in. Probably. She glances up at a creak before looking back to the screen.]

My clinic's taken some damage, but not as much as the Sanctuary. If anyone would be so kind as to help me, be it medically or by doing some heavy lifting, we can set up some cots and treat people here. It's not a lot of space, but we can set up outside as well, and go out to those that aren't able to make the journey. Any and all help would be appreciated, and please feel free to discuss among yourselves if you've got any helpful ideas. Now's the time.

[It's sort of like the riots. But there wasn't a giant stone reminder of how they almost got destroyed looming in the sky.

Claire takes a breath before carrying on.]

I would also ask those who are able to help with the recovery and removal of bodies do so. With all the time... travel [was that a wince?] I don't know if we'll be dealing with rotting and festering corpses in the next few hours or not. People need to be returned to their families and properly buried.

[Well, that will be something to see.]

[TJ isn't a stranger to hard work and she doesn't hesitate to start breaking down the already broken furniture into smaller pieces if she can do so. What she can't gets dragged to the corner, like Claire said.]

You bought it? [She takes the length of time the woman said she's been here into account and nods.] How long did it take to save the money?

[Claire has no one bleeding to death, currently, so she's there to help.]

Oh, just about my entire time here. I used to work at the Sanctuary, the... more or less official clinic, here. It's much more grand than this place. [Bigger, and well-staffed, but that didn't save it from the dragon.] It didn't pay much but I pinched my pennies where I could. Luckily, I seem to have some reputation, here. So it probably wasn't as expensive as it should have been.

[She considers.]

And it was a shithole when I first got it. Rats, a stray dog... broken glass... the works.

[The use of language makes TJ smile. Not because she'd thought Claire was overly prim and proper, but-- okay, maybe because she'd kind of thought it.]

I'm glad that it's working out. Or was. [She drags another piece of wood to the corner.] Will be again. [She was trying to be reassuring.]

You were saying someone was going to come help make it safer?

Thanks. [Said wryly, but with a smile. It's a mess, but it's a good thing Claire is well versed in cleaning them up.]

Sooner or later. I know a few people with muscle, and one of them just so happens to be a sweetheart. He'll do what he can.

[She smiles as she says it. Aside from vaguely sounding like a crime syndicate - well, right up until she mentions that whoever it is happens to be a sweetheart - TJ is glad that Claire's family isn't alone in making a go of it in this place.] I guess it's helpful when everyone here is, more or less, in the same situation.

You said you had family with you, too? Does it happen often, then, that people wake up together, you know, from the same time and place?

[There's John, but it's just a little off. Not quite the same thing.]

[There might be a few friendships Claire's seen the importance of keeping beyond mere companionship.]

Not too often, I'm afraid. I'm one of the lucky ones. I've known people that have their fathers or siblings here. It never really seems to last.

[So, while Claire's glad for her family here, she's always bracing for the worst.

Then again, returning to stasis isn't all that terrible, is it?]

[Returning might not be that terrible, but Claire's trying to stave off a certain loneliness that she's feeling. It's not the same when everyone has a roommate or a friend to count on. Arriving with no one and starting from scratch isn't easy. Even the military assigns you a bunk with someone else in it.

TJ nods along, though, because it's easier than explaining that she wants the best for her friends and she'll do anything to keep them safe.]

I suppose in this kind of place, it's impossible to tell. [She clears her throat and pulls on another piece of furniture.] Makes me wonder how we're all supposed to build new lives if people keep disappearing on us.

It's... not that different from life before, is it? People move away. People die. People drift apart. I think here it's only more noticeable because we're a select group.

[It's a cliche, but--]

You just have to live in the moment, I suppose.

[That's one way to look at it.]

Well, you're not wrong. [TJ stands upright and looks around the room.] Do you see a lot of patients here on a regular basis?

Do you mean on a normal day or when there's a crisis?

[Or the aftermath of a crisis.]

[TJ's expression probably says it all; she wants to laugh and it's probably not funny given the rubble they're standing in. She settles on a smile.]

Both, I guess?

This is the first real crisis it's been around for. On a normal day, not so much. There's still the Sanctuary, and most people would rather go to what they know. I tend to get the refugees.

That's us. The, uh. People whose worlds have disappeared.

[It felt strange referring to herself as a refugee.] I'm guessing there's a lot to learn about different people from different places.

[Claire smiles sadly. She knows how it is.]

You'll get it. You're a quick woman, TJ. I can already tell.

[She snaps out of it rather quickly.]

Thanks, Claire. I appreciate it. [Deep breath and a quick look around the room.] Where were we?
