Hello there! ( the image that appears is of a smiling blonde woman, healthy and bright looking, dressed now in pristine weight to present herself, projecting poise and elegance and friendly invitation to hear her out. her German Swiss accent is quite strong, though, so hopefully no-one is overly attached to their w's. ) I hope everyone is doing well this evening. I am coming onto the network to reach out to anyone I might not have been able to yet. My name is Angela Ziegler, and I am a doctor from Earth. Human, as you can see. ( a light, pleasant laugh and an even more pleasant smile ) You may also know me as Mercy. It's my agent name from when I was in service to a global peacekeeping organisation known as Overwatch.

I'm from the 21st century, so the treatment that I can offer you is science based ( a slight pause here as if she's considering one last time how to phrase this ) rather than magic based, but I have a good deal of practical experience with general medicine so there's almost nothing I haven't seen or dealt with. My expertise is in applied biotics, and I also have experience with gene therapy, prosthetics, and cybernetics, if there is anyone here who may need more specialised care. My qualifications also include emergency and trauma response so, if you ever find yourself wounded and in need of immediate attention, please do not hesitate to contact me. Think of me as personal 999 for refugees!

If you do come to me for any kind of care, I promise to do the best I can help you, while upholding all the oaths I've taken as a doctor to do no harm and to protect my patients. I'm not charging anything at this time.

And, if you'd like to humour me and help me to understand our group a bit better, I have a set of questions: do you believe you have a soul? What makes you think you do or don't have one? And is such a belief common where you're from? ( she doesn't mention religion, because it isn't strictly speaking a religious idea. she's known plenty of atheists and nay-theists who thought there was something beyond intelligence that made people paramount to other species. whether they called this unique internal animating light a soul or not, it didn't really matter. )

Oh, these? ( she shakes her own, in some type of demonstration. ) These are quite old-fashioned compared to what I'm used to. I think more modern ones would have been easier to learn and to use.

Have you had any trouble with any of the technology?

Yes, these. [ Juvia shakes hers, too, but a little more intensely than how Mercy had done it. ] We haven't made anything like this before, so this is very advanced to me. You have things better than this?

With learning.. a little. My roommate is helping me, but it's still hard. Juvia can't remember how to use it sometimes, too..

( She laughs at the suddenly juddering image. When it's stabilised, she sighs a bit and begins to speak, one hand passed to her cheek. ) Yes! Much better. You wouldn't even have to feel the device in your hand. It's all hologram baasd. That is--projections of light in the air. Which you can touch and interact with. It's a lot more fun than this clunky thing.

Hmm. Do you know about the various communication modes? You can send just an audio message, if you don't want show your face or your surroundings.

[ That sounds even more troublesome than what she has in her hands right now. ] How long did it take your world to do that? [ It shows in her face, the way her lips turn downward in both confusion and exasperation, how she really feels hearing that. There's... there's more technology out there??

At least the idea of projections are familiar to her-- everything else just makes her want to frown. ]

And.. sort of. But the video one is the first option that shows up, so Juvia just picks that. [ It's the easiest to understand!! ] Which one do you think is better?

( She wasn't expecting to cause exasperation. Far from it, actually, and she actually softens then, and sighs. ) Well, we've been around for a couple hundred thousand of years. So quite awhile, if I'm being honest. But. I think that, the more technology advances, the more user friendly it can become. I think holo tech is much more intuitive than these things, and they are also much more accessible to people who may have disabilities.

I prefer text personally since it is easier to go over if I need to review something. But, people seem to prefer video, so I don't mind using it.

[ As Mercy speaks, Juvia understands a little better. She feels, and looks, less muddled by the concept of technology based holograms. Or even technology that advanced to begin with. ] Miss Ziegler, do you think there's a reason why they didn't use that kind of technology from your world for us? Instead of this? [ The feed waves back and forth-- Juvia obviously gesturing to the device in their hand. ] If it is friendlier to me, Juvia would much rather use that.

You do? Juvia has been looking through the network, and text does seem a lot nicer. [ It appeals to the introvert inside her-- no face, no voice, just words. ] But isn't it easier for misunderstandings to happen?

( it's a good question, one with implications that make her expression fall and her brow furrow. Juvia's such a sweet person, it's hard to see her troubled so. ) I would rather being using it, too Juvia, for a lot of reasons. Perhaps they thought this would be easier for more people use? Maybe they took all of our disparate technological levels and averaged them out. Or perhaps they have just given us what matches most easily with this world. It's hard to say exactly.

That is true! On the other hand, text might be a bit more clear and concise since you have to actually think as you type.

It's okay. Juvia knows you don't have an answer. [ Just like how she doesn't have one-- she thought to ask it anyway, just to hear what she had to say. She seems very knowledgeable about this kind of thing! ] But I think that's what they might've done. Since there are a lot of us from many different worlds.. it makes sense in a way.

[ It's clear that she's still mulling over it all, though. But she can't be doubting the people who saved her!! ]

.. Oh. That is interesting. So it's like a well thought out letter, then.. Juvia will need to look into that.

Even still, I wish I did. Maybe if I understood even these smaller things a bit better, it would easier to determine if the Orbiters really intend to help us. And how. Doing their best or not, I pray that they become more transparent with their intentions. ( a pretty serious subject at that. she shakes her and sighs, and then she smiles, moving on. )

Anyway, yes! Like a letter. And who doesn't like getting letters? One of the finer pleasures in life.

It would be far easier for all of us if they were, but Juvia isn't sure when that will happen. [ Even if she is making friends.. this isn't the type of development she thought would follow the destruction of her world. ] I need to know if I can trust them, more than what I'm already giving them.

[ They managed to save her beloved Gray.......but it takes more than that to win her over ok. ]

I do like letters. It's one of the ways we communicate with each other in my home. Do people send you letters often?

Of course. They have given us a second chance, and I do appreciate that, but we should know what exactly they are asking us in exchange. Nothing comes for free.

( at the question, though, her face goes quite fond, quite quickly. it's evident she's thought of something she's harbouring a lot of nostalgia for. ) Unfortunately, no. Unlike your world, letter-writing is very much a dying art form in mine. I do receive letters from one person, and this is a very special exception. I treasure them even more because I know how lucky I am.

[ She nods, tucking a strand of her hair behind her ear as she speaks. She couldn't agree more with what she was saying. Juvia never did well with the unknown, often being too curious for her own good.

Like now, and the way she covers her mouth in realization. Juvia recognizes that expression too quickly for her own good, and if not for her level of self control, would've stuck the feed right to her eye to get a better look at it. But she doesn't-- she waits until the moment passes and she's answered her question. ]

If you don't mind my asking, who are they??

( Juvia's reaction surprises Mercy all the same, such that her eyes widen as she stares at the device in her hands for a few wordless seconds. then, almost sheepish, she brushes her hand around her ear as though she were going to put an errant bang back into place. her fingers linger around the base of it.

is it that obvious? perhaps she's getting sentimental in old age. soft, like overripened fruit. )

A friend of mine. He used to be my patient and it's been many years since I've seen him, but after awhile he wrote me letters from time to time to stay in touch.

I think he even used a quill. It's quite something. Was.

Oh my.. [ It probably isn't that obvious-- Juvia just has a penchant for voicing her suspicions and being a nosy person. She, at least, has enough of a filter to know not say how saucy it is that she's exchanging letters with a former patient. Exchanging anything is scandalous! She can just imagine it..

Did you have any of the letters on you when you came here, or were they back at home..?

( well, Angela can appreciate youthful exuberance and enthusiasm. usually it's just not about her personal life.

Yes. I actually arrived with one I received on Christmas.

[ Never mind the fact. That they both celebrate Christmas even though they're from different worlds, Juvia is more concerned with the Facts here. ]

Juvia would kill to get something like that for a present, among other things!!

( it is something that Angela might normally remark on, as she certainly does notice it. her expression acknowledges as much, and it registers as pleasant surprise on her face: slightly widened eyes, a bit of a smile, a tilt to her head.

Maybe you should ask for a kiss this winter. We might be able to find you some mistletoe. ( this is all good natured teasing, of course. that's one of her favourite parts of the holiday season. )

[ If Juvia was capable of making skeevy expressions, she'd be making one right now to emphasis her point on where her mind travels to (it's the gutter). ]

Juvia doesn't know.. Having a kiss with a stranger from another world for Christmas?! [ Even if it's teasing, the tone of voice Juvia has sounds very genuine and very real about the crisis she feels. ] It sounds so.. so forbidden!!

( for her part Mercy gives what's her version of a ribald smirk, a knowing look, and a hum in her throat.

the response to her second suggestion only amuses her more. ) And doesn't that make it that more alluring? Something so impossible, and so forbidden, and just shouldn't be. It's quite romantic!

[ It does. It does sound alluring. Adventures with new people of the romantic kind, in a brand new world.

Without your friends. Romantic adventures, without your friends.

Sure, there's no love rivals, no people in Juvia's way, but there's always new enemies that could make her life harder! Make her beloved Gray's life harder! ]

[ It takes Juvia all of 10 seconds of a dead stare into the camera to blurt out the only coherent thought she has left. ]

What am I doing?! I'm a faithful woman!! I need to stop!
