Hello there! ( the image that appears is of a smiling blonde woman, healthy and bright looking, dressed now in pristine weight to present herself, projecting poise and elegance and friendly invitation to hear her out. her German Swiss accent is quite strong, though, so hopefully no-one is overly attached to their w's. ) I hope everyone is doing well this evening. I am coming onto the network to reach out to anyone I might not have been able to yet. My name is Angela Ziegler, and I am a doctor from Earth. Human, as you can see. ( a light, pleasant laugh and an even more pleasant smile ) You may also know me as Mercy. It's my agent name from when I was in service to a global peacekeeping organisation known as Overwatch.
I'm from the 21st century, so the treatment that I can offer you is science based ( a slight pause here as if she's considering one last time how to phrase this ) rather than magic based, but I have a good deal of practical experience with general medicine so there's almost nothing I haven't seen or dealt with. My expertise is in applied biotics, and I also have experience with gene therapy, prosthetics, and cybernetics, if there is anyone here who may need more specialised care. My qualifications also include emergency and trauma response so, if you ever find yourself wounded and in need of immediate attention, please do not hesitate to contact me. Think of me as personal 999 for refugees!
If you do come to me for any kind of care, I promise to do the best I can help you, while upholding all the oaths I've taken as a doctor to do no harm and to protect my patients. I'm not charging anything at this time.
And, if you'd like to humour me and help me to understand our group a bit better, I have a set of questions: do you believe you have a soul? What makes you think you do or don't have one? And is such a belief common where you're from? ( she doesn't mention religion, because it isn't strictly speaking a religious idea. she's known plenty of atheists and nay-theists who thought there was something beyond intelligence that made people paramount to other species. whether they called this unique internal animating light a soul or not, it didn't really matter. )

only for fun?
or is to expedite travel?
[ look, there wasn't much time for hobbies in the war. ]
no subject
Some place still have soldiers the are trained as part of a ski unit.
They do stealth missions, espionage, that kind of thing.
no subject
interesting
do you think they'll have skiing here?
no subject
If we do find snow, I would be happy to teach you if you'd like to learn. There's also snowboarding. You might like that.
no subject
if we ever get the chance, i'd like that
you have a varied skillset, mercy
[ colour her impressed. ]
no subject
Of course! I will be on the lookout for snow snow.
Do you really think so? I think we all have hobbies. Even doctors. And heroes.
no subject
jyn... might not have hobbies... she likes to fight. and cook, sometimes. when she was in five points, she spent hours on the holonet reading and learning. perhaps those count. ]
i don't know if i've ever had time for proper hobbies
maybe that's unusual
[ hadder always said she was weird. she believes as much. ]
no subject
should she bring them up?
maybe. to tease. )
Surely there is something. You don't work all the time, do you?
What about romance novels?
Maybe penmanship?
no subject
penmanship, yes
appropriating property
reading
perhaps not romance
no subject
Is that appropriating, or reapportioning?
Hmm. Not romance.
Space pirates, then? Whatever is the space equivalent of a swashbuckler.
no subject
[ by stealing from the rich, little miss robin hood. ]
hah! we just call them pirates
[ no need for the "space" descriptor when everything's in space. ]
no subject
All right then, pirates. Do you enjoy novels about them? I would think those have some romance in them. Captain Starsinger jauntily swindling his way through the nebulae to impress his aloof lady love, who lost her heart to a blackhole. Something like that.
no subject
i've never read a pirate novel or novels at all
but smugglers aren't so dashing in reality
they take things and people wherever they're paid to go
[ so... literal... ANYWAY. ]
i've only read manuals and news articles really
no subject
People like to consume media about hospitals, even though hospitals are not actually anything as glamorous as they portray them.
I think people like to use their imagination sometimes.
You know, you may be the only person I know who actually reads manuals.
no subject
and real people need to know how to do things properly
[ so she's a nerd who doesn't like fantasy but pays close attention to instructions. ]
no subject
Well, I am a doctor but I would have had a hard time if all I'd ever done is read medical papers.
Maybe that is your hobby. Learning how things work.
You don't also happen to be handy with a spanner, do you?
no subject
[ but oh. maybe it is her hobby. ]
i'm alright with one, actually
no subject
If I need some appliances fixed, do you think you could give it a go?
no subject
you know your stuff
[ mercy becomes a little more impressive every day. ]
i can fix things
for a fee
[ cheeky. ]
no subject
( which is to say, in Jyn's own field of expertise, Mercy would listen to her and maybe even heed her advice. after criticism, of course, if she has it. and that doesn't preclude doubts either. )
A fee? Is that payable in silver, or in favours?
no subject
[ both silver and favours have value, with the latter appealing because of mercy's skills and temperament. ]
your favours may be worth more than silver.
[ out of context, she might belong in a romance novel, after all. ]
no subject
( she's teasing, of course. unseen she is laughing. )
But. My favours come free of charge for those who need them.
no subject
[ jyn's may also come free of charge for those who need them — and deserve them. ]
it's a deal then
whenever one of us requires a favour, that is
[ the exchange rate has been set. ]
no subject
Be careful, Asta!
If you're any nicer to me, I might start thinking you're my friend.
And I always make sure to take care of them.
no subject
[ maybe they're friends!! she doesn't care!!
(they're friends) ]
