[ This is short notice (and just plain short), but kind of on purpose. Less time for word to get out past the refugees themselves. ]

Coalition's coming up real soon, and I know plenty of us find it somewhat worthy of suspicion. I'd like to be in the area, but not attend, just to keep an eye on things from the outside in the event of an emergency. If anyone would like to join me, I'd appreciate the backup.

Nice to meet you, Jim-san. I'm Yu Narukami. This entire event has made me suspicious but I've always been one trying to find the entire truth of something before jumping in.

I can understand that. I'm a jumper, personally.

Yu is fine. I just keep using honorifics out of habit.

[It's not like they are really...needed here.]

That can be incredibly useful too. Sometimes it's best not to other-think and just go with your gut feelings. I've been learning more about that here the more I stay.

[ Jim's familiar with a bunch of Earth (and beyond) languages - had to be, for a lot of Academy requirements - but it's still best to ask. The translation tech here isn't like what he's used to. ]

Every society needs all kinds to function. :)

Yeah. I think that's why I hate what's going on between both 'fractions' so much. Working together can result in so much better results...

What was it like for you before waking up here? There must be a reason why you're thinking about this.

It does.

I'm a captain in Starfleet, which does deep space exploration and scientific study, humanitarian aid galaxy-wide, and acts as the Federation's military force. I wear a lot of hats, so to speak.

In my own world and time, the only things we had sent to the stars were a few spaceships to the moon and satellites to map out other planets and beyond.

It's good to know in others, an organization like Starfleet exists.

I see why you'd be the type to run into danger then...at the same time I have a feeling others don't like this quality as much.

[Sounds like the type of guy to throw himself into a problem and then think about what it might cause later. Useful for some battles where it's better to go with your gut feeling...probably bad if it causes more problems down the line.]

I can't boast of anything like that, honestly. I've protected earth from gods trying to destroy humanity, but nothing beyond that.

It's a matter of balance in all things, I think.

[ Jim's not so blindly reckless, these days; he just knows what he's capable of, and he knows what he's willing to sacrifice. He doesn't have to agonize over most decisions. ]

.. I think that's plenty brag-worthy.
