[ This is short notice (and just plain short), but kind of on purpose. Less time for word to get out past the refugees themselves. ]

Coalition's coming up real soon, and I know plenty of us find it somewhat worthy of suspicion. I'd like to be in the area, but not attend, just to keep an eye on things from the outside in the event of an emergency. If anyone would like to join me, I'd appreciate the backup.

[ jim doesn't mean anything by what he says, but percy still opens his mouth as though offended before closing his mouth and making himself swallow down whatever he'd been about to say first.

he's a little touchy about the water-themed jokes and nicknames.

he sighs, then says, ]

Yeah, that's me -- Percy, for the record. I guess you're...uh, JTK.

[ or at least that that'd been his network username, anyway. ]

[ Jim catches the bitten-back reaction, and he raises his hands a little; no harm meant. Though there's still a bit of hey, you have superpowers, you're probably more badass than some dumb names, kid in the corner of his smile. ]

Percy. [ Good to meet you, etc. Jim extends his hand. ] Jim Kirk. Thanks for coming out to give this a go.

[ Even in the midst of hand-wringing and troll responses. ]

[ he'll take jim's hand for a shake, with all the awkward fumble of a teenager not too used to hand-shaking. less standard teen is the way his hands are calloused, rough from years of training with swords, javelins, and the like.

he quirks his eyebrows, says, ]

Thanks for coming up with this. I'm hoping things'll be chill, but in all the time I've been here? It'd be a first.

[ He seems like a good kid, fumbling and all. It's a little funny how half the teenagers here are miles more competent and gung-ho than some of the adults - but then, Jim was a too-young prodigy himself so ....... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Anyway, he shrugs about being thanked. He's just working. ]

Yeah. I've only been here a few months, but there's barely been a quiet twenty-four hours. So what have we got?

[phykios]

Me too.

[ jim's another who was on the ship with him back when, then, who percy never had the opportunity to meet till now. at the prompting, he pulls a container out of a bag he'd been carrying, holds it out. ]

I thought I could give it a shot with one of them, while we're both here.

[ he's like almost completely sure it'll work, but it doesn't hurt to check -- or potentially put any doubts jim might have to rest. ]

[ Jim takes the offered container, rolls it over in his hands. ]

That's a good idea. [ No use waiting for an emergency to test it. ] Want me to go ... back up somewhere?

[ Since Percy had mentioned range could be an issue. ]

[phykios]

[ he shrugs. ]

Yeah. And, uh, maybe you should put it down somewhere.

[ unless jim's game for getting spattered with water, anyway. ]

Alright. [ A bit of a laugh at that. ] Count to sixty.

[ And he'll take off, wandering a bit into the woods or brush or whatever is out here. Hopefully this thing isn't glass and he won't be risking slicing himself (or anyone else) up if it explodes over the course of the event, but for now, he jogs until his own count has hit about fifty, then sets the thing down on the ground.

(Drumroll.) ]

[ the container is some kind of plastic, probably, or whatever the olympian equivalent is...

and percy waits until a count of sixty passes, then moves so he's facing the direction in which jim went and closes his eyes.

for a second, nothing happens. then the container starts to tremble for a millisecond, before it explodes in a starburst of water. ]

[ Nice.

Jim re-appears at a brisk clip, and offers Percy a thumbs-up before he comes to a halt. ]

It worked. I'll have to be careful not to accidentally crush it against something on my own, but that should function pretty well if something goes down.

[ Maybe the network dies, maybe people can't get to their devices, who knows. ]

[phykios]

Good to know.

[ maybe their devices get jammed, or maybe there's just really bad wifi out here. or maybe nothing happens to the devices, but it never hurts to have a subtle way to signal trouble, as easy as closing his eyes.

when jim's close enough, he'll hold out his bag for handing off. ]

Then I'll see you on the other side, I guess.

[ Jim takes the bag, considering where to store the thing on his person later. Eh, he'll figure it out. ]

You will. Thanks again for doing this - it's always worth it to know what we've all got to work with, I think.

[ They're a community within a community beset by mysterious enemies. Best to be open with each other, right? ]
