[ This is short notice (and just plain short), but kind of on purpose. Less time for word to get out past the refugees themselves. ]

Coalition's coming up real soon, and I know plenty of us find it somewhat worthy of suspicion. I'd like to be in the area, but not attend, just to keep an eye on things from the outside in the event of an emergency. If anyone would like to join me, I'd appreciate the backup.

About a month ago, over 40 refugees were abducted from Wyver and Olympia by extremists fearing some kind of conspiracy between the cities. They were recovered, but not before being held and tortured for a period of time.

It's my understanding that most, if not all, of those responsible found at each scene were either killed or taken into custody, but there's no way to know what else is out there. This cooperative event seems to be entirely in good faith - it's not the cities I'm concerned about.

They're afraid of outsiders. I'm sorry this happened. It's a different face than what they are showing to the new arrivals. So now they offer this event to try and foster some sort of understanding?

Is there any reason to think it might be a trap? Maybe not by the rulers but by others? It sounds as though the natives are the ones who are not to be trusted.

'They' aren't all the same. Not every native is an extremist, not even every native who doesn't particularly like us is an extremist. Generally, we've been welcomed.

The kidnappings are the reason I find caution worth it. I don't think the city leaders were complicit in the extremists' actions, but I don't trust potential third parties not to take advantage.

That is comforting to know. I know so little of these natives that I would have wondered if they were hiding something behind their smiles. So many had been kind, I didn't want to consider an ulterior motive.

But the kidnappings were related to government policies? Didn't have to do with this war between Olympia and Wyver?

Olympia and Wyver are historic rivals, and plenty of natives take that bad blood seriously. The extremists are natives taking it way, way too far, and pinning their malcontent onto refugees.

Hopefully this meeting is a step forward.
