You may want to see who else in your neighborhood has pets. It will be convenient to babysit for each other so you can still work and such.

That depends?
It may be all right if you just leave it food and water, but I wouldn't count on that just yet, if it's a baby.
And even if it's older, it will need playtime to develop properly.

If it does like fruit, it might be able to climb trees and pick some, for itself as well as for you.

I'm not sure you should keep a pet just because it may be useful, especially if you don't know what kind of pet it is.
But if you enjoy its company and it happens to be useful too, that's definitely a bonus!

I'm not sure those count as pets.
But I think even with those, it's better for all involved if you can love them a little.
