A belated merry Christmas to everyone who celebrates. Didn't think it would be any good but it's been nice, hope those of you who know it had a good time.
If anyone knows Dirk Gently, he's gone for a nap.

[ except hope's brutal and waiting's worse and there's really no turning off the hollow feeling of a disappearance once its settled in the gut ]

Thing is, this is life now. I knew that, but once something's come into your own house it's harder to ignore it.

the slight delay on this text is spent staring mutely into the middle-distance, trying to work out what the hell kind of an emotion he's supposed to feel in response to this. what it'll fill. if whatever nebulous thing is waiting in him will solidify or go gaseous. ]
Thanks

[ A good one, she should say, but she knows John has known the man longer than her. She supposes it needn't be said. Peggy herself is especially particular about who she keeps as company and she and Dirk had a lovely, long chat on the balcony of the South Outpost.
Being on the outside of a grief or anger that doesn't quite touch you is — strange, awkward sometimes. When Bucky had been (presumably) killed in action, she'd tried her best to be there for Steve even if the other soldier was more his friend than hers (what's a year or two in combat compared to a childhood?). That doesn't lessen the hardship.
There's a minute of nothing before she sends her next message, an echo of his from a few weeks ago: ]
But don't get lost.

John holds his breath for a second, then releases it through the shape of a weary smile. alright, Peggy Carter. alright. ]
Did you see him with or without the Christmas jumper?

Sorry, buddy. ]
Is that how we're describing it now?

It's how I'm describing it yeah. You can pick your own poison

Not many seem to wake again.
[ He's basing this on Asha, on Arya, on Robb and Victarion. The latter two have hardly been gone for two months, but this is a lonely man who harbors no hope for them to return from stasis. ]
But if you wish to speak so flippantly, then they've all gone for a nap.

[ they are, however miserably, on the same page for a multitude of topics tonight. John might be choosing flippancy for now as an active weapon against losing any more control to incomprehensible and untouchable forces, but he does understand the thing for what it is. helplessness is always wretched. there are more faces up there than he could ever think to count, and not one of the people living down here has the power to choose who or when they will wake.
all his friends here are new, and one by one they're slipping back into sleep.
rather than angry, John finds himself morbidly amused. ]
"Dirk Gently's gone back to the living graveyard in the sky." Read any better for you? We should come up with some common terminology, do everyone a favour.

[ In a way, Theon shares his amusement. He may even get a bit of a smirk out of his graveyard comment.
It’s strange, honestly. Why are they agreeing on things tonight? ]
I prefer to call it a crypt.

Crypt, that's good. The viewing windows to replace the uncanny stone likenesses. Not sure it'll catch on, but it's good.
I might go for gallery.

[ He had always hated the crypts, and he hates the stasis unit just as much. He's only visited to glower at his sister and to yell at Robb. He always avoids his father and his mother. ]
The only difference is that it houses more than just kings.

I was speaking with someone a few days ago who was attempting to form a list of all those who were falling back asleep. He was hoping to figure out a source to it all. Although all I’ve figured out myself is that it only those of us from Thessa that can be affected.
None the less I wish you the best for the holidays. Hopefully, despite it all, the festivities were pleasant on your end.
[He understood how upsetting it was to experience such things first hand. Please take care of yourself.]

I'm not sure understanding it's going to make much of a difference. But good luck to him, and to you if you're investigating.
Thanks again. My best to you and yours.

At this point the only thing we know is that it could happen to any of us. And with that knowledge it’s a bit scary, don’t you think?
