Hello! I'm 9S, and I'm testing out the capabilities of these devices we've been given. I'm just looking at some technical stuff so, uh, feel free to disregard if it's not your sort of thing.

I know we've all lost our homes recently and that's pretty rough to deal with, but... if you wouldn't mind, could you tell me if you came from Earth? And if you did, what did you like about it?

[ A beat. ]

You can do that if you're from somewhere else too! Earth's the only planet I had experience with before coming here, but I'd be happy to hear about other worlds as well.

That's terrible... Why would aliens do a thing like that?

[Atsushi may not have a lot of experience with aliens, but Darma&co. probably count, right? And they've been very helpful!]

There were certainly a lot of them. I haven't seen any here yet, but that doesn't mean they aren't here! If you spot a small, furry creature with triangular ears and a tail almost as long as their body, it may just be a cat.

I'm not sure anyone knows that anymore. Maybe they thought our world was ripe for the taking.

[ Darma and friends are definitely a lot better than the aliens that invaded his world, but he's not sure he entirely trusts them yet. Especially after that whole crash landing incident. ]

I'll have to keep an eye out for one. They're bound to have made it out here with the rest of us, I bet.

"Taking"... That's just abusing their power!

[Yes. Yes, that is exactly what it is. Almost the definition of it, even.]

I hope so! Losing a place isn't so bad; losing people and even animals feels much worse.

[ No one ever really knew why the aliens came - if Emil did, he never said anything. But without the alien invasion, there might not have been a need for YoRHa. 9S doesn't know how he feels about that. ]

... Losing animals? Did you have any of them?

[ He's never really thought about having a pet, though he's seen some odd machines that did. ]

Ah - no, not me personally. Just, in general? Like the cats I mentioned.

All of this must be even more confusing to any animals that were saved...

Oh! Yeah, that would be pretty sad.

Maybe the Natha can communicate with them too. Statiscally speaking, there's no way that this many beings from so many backgrounds speak the same language.

[ Though that does bring up some weird questions about sentience. ]

That's true... It must be interesting, being able to talk to animals! I wonder what they think about. Food, probably..?
