[ The feed flips on, and Ariadne peers into the camera, big brown eyes and "could be twelve, could be eighteen" sort of face, looking even younger than she otherwise might - she's a little hesitant at addressing the network like this but she figures this is the best way to find out for sure what she wants - needs to know. ]
This is, like, the biggest Skype call I've ever made. Hi. Uh. I'm Ariadne. Not the Greek one, just a Canadian one. [ Because Diana already thought she might be the Greek one. Just clarifying! ] I guess I'm just wondering if there are any other architects here. I mean, I can kind of understand why they'd need some, and I'm grateful and all, but I hadn't even finished my degree yet. There's gotta be someone more qualified here, right?
[ And then she hesitates, because honestly? That's not really what she needs to know. What she needs to know is something a little more... well, shady. And she has no idea how else to ask this. ]
Also, uh. If anyone's heard the term Somnacin, let me know.

[Bellamy's a nerd. Sorry, Ariadne.]
You think they pulled you here because you're an architect?
video;
[ She shrugs. ]
I mean, it wasn't random. And they claim to need our help, right?
no subject
Not random, but I don't think they were sorting through our resumes before snatching us up. I've seen almost everyone I know sleeping in those pods.

[He just doesn't know what that is yet.]
It would be a hell of a lot more work to sort through the population of an entire planet picking and choosing based on background and skills than just scooping up a big group.
[Then again, maybe they did. This technology is far beyond anything he's ever seen, and he's already realizing that his world is one of the more technologically advanced ones represented here.]

[ A short bow. ]
But I've never heard the term. What is it?
video;
[ She shrugs. ]
It was just this... experimental thing I was involved with back home for a while. It probably doesn't exist here at all. A shot in the dark, really.
video;
What - experimental architecture?

[ She's choosing her words very carefully. It's something she wants to talk about, on one hand, and doubts she'll get into trouble for here anyway, but she's also still highly aware of the fact that she did something both illegal and ethically shady, so she's hesitant to just spit it out on a public network post. ]

[ honestly, it's not that absurd a thought. most people seek some meaning in why they were awoken, even if there isn't any to find. ]
A degree is hardly indicative of skill. Perhaps you have some hidden talent that makes you more qualified than others.
voice;
[ She shrugs. ]
And I know it's not, but I don't have any actual buildings to my name. There were plenty of architects on my world who did. I guess I was just assuming they would've wanted some of them here.
voice;
[ he's definitely met people here that... make no sense, unless the orbiters just want to see the world burn. ]
I doubt we were brought here to build things. The world here is already developed enough as is. [ could it be more? probably. but why would that matter at all when there's something out there wiping out entire worlds? ] Perhaps you're thinking of it the wrong way. Analyzing structure, understanding how things work in conjunction with one another... you have skills that could be useful for things other than simply designing a building.
voice;
[ She shrugs again. ]
I'd assume anyone with my training should have those skills. I really was just asking a question, but - yeah, you know what, I sure as hell hope there's a reason behind bringing me here. So far as I can tell? I'm all alone from my world. It sucks.
voice;
[ he's not the only one from his world... and though he won't go as far as saying he wishes he was, it's definitely caused him more headaches than anything else. ]
Ultimately, whether you or anyone else was brought here for a reason hardly matters. As long as no one ever tells you what that reason is, all you can do is press on. [ a sigh. ] I've tried reasoning out why I was brought here, but none of the reasons are particularly positive.
