Just clarifying! ] I guess I'm just wondering if there are any other architects here. I mean, I can kind of understand why they'd need some, and I'm grateful and all, but I hadn't even finished my degree yet. There's gotta be someone more qualified here, right?

[ And then she hesitates, because honestly? That's not really what she needs to know. What she needs to know is something a little more... well, shady. And she has no idea how else to ask this. ]

It was just this... experimental thing I was involved with back home for a while. It probably doesn't exist here at all. A shot in the dark, really.

What - experimental architecture?

Um... sort of? It's hard to explain, but they had me designing some things that - weren't exactly possible, according to the laws of physics.

[ She's choosing her words very carefully. It's something she wants to talk about, on one hand, and doubts she'll get into trouble for here anyway, but she's also still highly aware of the fact that she did something both illegal and ethically shady, so she's hesitant to just spit it out on a public network post. ]

[He almost, almost brings up the whole "killed by Perseus" thing, but by some miracle decides not to be a downer.]

Not random, but I don't think they were sorting through our resumes before snatching us up. I've seen almost everyone I know sleeping in those pods.

I don't know yet. If you want guesses, I think they want something from us. More than what they're saying.

It would be a hell of a lot more work to sort through the population of an entire planet picking and choosing based on background and skills than just scooping up a big group.

[Then again, maybe they did. This technology is far beyond anything he's ever seen, and he's already realizing that his world is one of the more technologically advanced ones represented here.]

Well if they want me for something other than my skills as an architect, they're going to be sorely disappointed. Like, my old movie trivia skills are pretty good but I don't see how that would be useful.

[ Shrug. ]

[ Yes, good. Honestly, she'll tell him a bit more about it - in private, and after a couple glasses of wine. One or two other people already know, thanks to the name tag thing when she first showed up, anyway. ]

That seems counterintuitive, unless they're going for sheer numbers for some reason. But if they just needed numbers, why aren't they waking up everyone they have?

I don't know. They might be telling the truth about needing time to wake everyone up. Space travel isn't a walk in the park, so I doubt hopping between universes is much better.

[These are all shots in the dark and he knows it. He wishes Raven were awake—she'd be able to piece these together much more logically.]

I don't know anything about either. Like I said - architecture is what I do. I'm not even that great at drawing things that aren't buildings.

[ She's probably better than she thinks she is, but still. ]

You sure, or are you just being modest? That can't be all you're good at.

Uh... [ She thinks about that for a moment. ] I think I want to err on the side of class, this time.

I mean, we're all good at stuff. I'm good at architecture, and sticking my nose in other people's business, and old movie trivia, and the best dive bars in the 14th arrondissement, how to backpack around Europe on five euros a day, which hostels in Berlin to avoid, the saddest Russian novels, and the best Smiths songs. Probably a few other things, too.

[ Shrug. ]

I'm just operating on what I think would be useful to these... whoever these guys are.

[He smiles a little at that. Quite the list.]
