Oh I'm being silly, aren't I? I ought to just go back to Wyverr, properly. I mean, one shouldn't run away from one's problems, should one?

Perhaps I should start again. My friends, Enjolras and Grantaire and I, we'd been sharing one of the rooms here at Nadril. Only they're made for two people, so I've been switching between one bed and the other, since I don't think anyone should sleep on the floor, you see?

And it was fine, even if Grantaire stole the sheets and Enjolras slept like a plank, flat on his back, which doesn't seem very comfortable at all --

Anyway.

In the midst of the clean up effort, Grantaire turned to me, and he didn't know me at all. Not who I was, or that I was his friend, or anything like that.

And it just didn't seem right, to share a home with someone who doesn't remember me. So I've been staying on my own at Nadril. I take the train into one city or the other to help with the clean-up and whatnot.

I should stop complaining, shouldn't I? I'm sure he'll -- he'll be fine. Or he'll have a fine, new life. And it will all be good.

Anyway all this to say, I suppose, if anyone requires my services in either city, I'm happy to come down to you to help with whatever needs helping with?

When the video clicks on he's scowling: at himself and at this magic which has sent their friend away from them.] Come home, Prouvaire. There has been magic at work.

Magic? [He pushes his curls out of his face; he looks all manners of disheveled, in a way his friends haven't seen him very often. Not since the revolution, at least.]

That would certainly explain why he was behaving so oddly. I just didn't want to impose myself on him while he was in such a state.

Is he better? Does he remember us now?

[Bizarre how living close to someone makes it easier to see things you wouldn't have noticed before. The dishevelled hair stick in Enjolras' mind.]

I spoke to him, or a man who looked like him. He claimed to have been a revolutionary all along. [Among other things.] If that is not the work of magic, then I know not what is.

That doesn't sound so terribly far fetched, you know. He's always believed so deeply and fervently in you.

[Enjolras scoffs, the only reponse he'll give to that.]

Even magic couldn't do that much. This man was disdainful of me.

[ Grantaire’s moment of forgetfulness has long passed, and his half-smile has returned. He feels terrible, to have inadvertently caused such distress, but he isn’t going to address it. He’s just going to act as though nothing happened at all. That is far easier than admitting that magic was at work. ]

What is this nonsense? New verses? Make less use of my name next time, my dear poet. Do you truly wish to freeze alone in Nadril?

[He looks cautious. Wary of this whole situation.] Do you remember me now, then? You know who I am?

[ He would say something along the lines of "I could never forget", but...well, he did forget briefly. ]

Jehan Prouvaire. Of course I know you. Why have you gone back to the ice and snow? Have you grown so fond of it that you couldn't bear to part with it?

I didn't wish to be troublesome. If you didn't remember me, I didn't want you to have to live with a stranger.

I'm being quite silly, aren't I?

Perhaps you are, but I dare not laugh when you're so far away. Come home, and we will laugh about this together. Your plants will need tending to.

[ And you know that neither Grantaire nor Enjolras can be trusted to tend to them. ]

You have never been troublesome, and you have not been a stranger since we met.

Oh dear, the plants! [He was so distraught he didn't even think of them]

I'll come home straight away, of course. For you and Enjolras, because I miss you both terribly. And also the plants, who are probably very dry.

[ He’s quite proud of himself for that one. Jehan is too soft hearted to leave his plants unattended, and Grantaire is too soft hearted to allow Jehan to freeze alone in Nadril. ]

I can meet you halfway if you like. We'll make the second leg of the journey together.

[ Because he does feel terrible about being the cause of this whole ordeal. Surely making an attempt to do that much is the least he can do. ]

That is incredibly kind of you, my dear friend. Of course I'd be more than happy to make the second half of the journey with you.

Then I will be on my way, and I hope that the trip will be made better for the company.

[ He suspects Enjolras won't notice his absence. That's how things tend to be. ]

You will be glad to know that our home is still standing, of course, though perhaps you knew before. I even found a bottle of wine hidden within. I would be glad to enjoy it with you when we return, and Enjolras as well.

Well nothing, really! It was a silly argument we had. We all offered to sleep on the floor, but none of us wanted to let the other one catch a chill, or something like that.

So I just changed beds around.

So let me get this straight... You were fighting over a bed for the night and one of your roommates just caught a spontaneous case of amnesia?

[Rey hasn't ever been one to put herself in the middle of the problems other people are having, to help people when she's so used to living somewhere where that just doesn't happen, strangers don't just extend a helping hand, so initially she really has no reason to respond to this.

But it's that line he said first, the one about not running away, that sticks in her head and won't let her stop considering it and finally, against her better judgement, makes her speak up.]

You already said you know better, so don't run away. The only thing that ever gets you is more problems caused by the things you didn't face the first time.

You're completely right. I shouldn't have gone off in the first place, and I'm sorry that I did.

I suppose the only thing I can do now is go back and make it right. And to not do it again in the future, of course.

I think that a true friend would understand that you didn't mean it as long as you say so.

[She means that literally, though, is entirely guessing because she's still so new to the concept of friendship. All she can do is base things on what she feels might be true of Finn, and when he had tried to run from the First Order she hadn't been able to hold it against him, not for long.

Fear makes people act in ways they might not otherwise, and she's doing her best to give people second chances when they deserve them. When they earn them.]
