This isn't something that I typically find myself asking or even thinking about, to be honest.
But I suppose I'm of age now, and "of age" is a somewhat irrelevant concept when the countries and laws we come from no longer exist, isn't it?

in a lot of stories you have to already be magical to learn magic
but i guess in others it's more about the words and stuff...

The inherent advantage of people born into magical families isn't genetic, it's that we're around magic and those who use it our entire lives. Children in magical families pick it up as they might learn a foreign language spoken in the home.
