Hello. I am Mantis. [With that abrupt greeting comes an equally abrupt (and not at all awkward, really!) smile. She's trying. There's a bit of a pause here, as her smile fades a bit, to be replaced by a genuinely contrite expression.] I apologize. I know I have a hideous face. I will not show it here again. I wanted to meet all of you, though.

[And that means face-to-face, you poor unfortunate souls.]

Some of you have asked such interesting questions. I am afraid that I do not have any to ask of you. I wanted to meet you all and introduce myself. [Cue the friendly awkward smile again. She is getting better at it, at least.] Oh! Perhaps you could tell me something about yourself. [A pause, as she tries and fails to think of a more specific question. Then, a little defeated:] Anything at all will do, I suppose.

[She glances downward for just a short moment, uncomfortable and anxious at the attention she's calling toward herself. But it's just that: a short moment, easily mistaken for wandering attention, perhaps.]

Oh, but then that would mean someone else would have lied to me.

[ a brief pause. ]

Or, you know, they just don't know how to appreciate a lovely woman. [ with the unspoken intent here being like i do. ]

[She's completely beyond confused her. There's a wide-eyed sort of deer-in-headlights look going on here.]

Oh. [Give her a moment; maybe she'll come up with something else to say.

Uh, you're welcome. [ he's a little thrown off. most girls tend to have a much more... visceral reaction to his lines. ]

So. What'd you wanna know about me? You should probably be specific, cuz I got loda to say.

[She doesn't know how to deal with them, so defaulting to just... thanking him and moving on seems right.

Uh. Well! My name's Lance, I'm from Earth, though before all this I was traveling around in space because one day we saw this alien pod crash near the school my friends and I were attending, and we found out there's this like evil alien empire bent on conquering the universe and it was coming for our Earth next and we were all like, Oh heck no! But you know we didn't really have any way to do anything about it until we went to Keith's place and turns out he's been like tracking all these weird energy signatures and Hunk was like Hey wait! That looks like frown-hopper line! [ fraunhofer lines... ] And the rest of us were like Whoa what!? And so we followed it and it led us right to Blue! (She's this super cool alien robot space lion that's part of like four others who can join together to form Voltron but I'm getting ahead of myself—) Anyway she totally chose me — me! Out of everyone else! — to pilot her, and so I did, and I rocked, and then she told me she had to go home and I was like, Whaaaat? But okay, and so we went through a wormhole! And she took us to this other planet, where this castle-ship was, and that's when we met Allura and Coran and they told us about Voltron and—

[ do you regret your life yet, mantis... do you... ]

[Yes. Actually she does. She's never one to interrupt people but she finds it within her for this one.]

That is... a lot of information. Who are Keith and... and Hunk? Your friends?

[competing]

[ ah... guess that makes him special. ]

—oh, yeah! They're my buddies from Earth. They also pilot lions for Voltron. I've got Blue, Keith's got Red, and Hunk's got Yellow. Then our friends Pidge has Green, and Shiro's got Black.

[uglybug]

And these lions come together to create Voltron? What is that?

He's the defender of the universe! This super cool robot man thing that goes around kicking evil alien butt!

[uglybug]

Oh, a defender. That is good! [She can get behind that.] Who are Allura and Coran?

[See? She listened.]

They're Alteans. Allura's the Princess of Altea, and Coran is her advisor. [ and? everything else? what can't coran do, tbh. ] It was Allura's dad who made the lions we pilot in the first place!
