[ This was the first time Reign used the network, and thus the video feed began with a view of himself. He waved at the screen with a polite smile, fangs peeking out slightly. ]

It seems this is a good place to ask for name suggestions, and I've seen a few people do that. I've recently gotten myself a new pet, though strangely hatched from an egg when he's a mammalian creature. Ah, let me introduce him.

[ Reign would disappear from view for a bit, then reemerged with a petite looking giraffe in the palm of his hands. ]

Anyway, other than names, I'm not certain what kind of diet a giraffe should eat. I've been letting him drink milk, which works well, but I don't know if he eats other kind of food. Would grass work? Vegetables, perhaps?

[ The giraffe raised its head, and Reign happily leaned down to let his pet kiss him on the cheek. ]

Aaaah~ Isn't he adorable?

[ Just... forgive Reign for staring at her a bit. But those long antennae on her forehead...

He blinked, then grinned as he pressed his cheek gently to the giraffe. ]

Isn't he? I didn't think one would exist, much less become a pet of mine. What I've read is that he's a kind of animal called a giraffe. Supposedly one of the tallest animal in some world.

[ Sorry, Mantis, but you kind of reminded Reign a lot of his giraffe now. ]

[He's forgiven. It isn't the first time someone has stared at her antennae.]

Oh? The tallest? Then that is a very miniature giraffe, isn't it?

[ Reign really didn't want to be rude, but it was one feature of hers that was hard to miss.

Her words drew a chuckle from Reign. ]

You're right. He may be the tallest animal, but he's currently a miniature version. I guess the correct term should be the tallest miniature animal! It seems that quite a few people who have received a mysterious egg has these tiny creatures hatched from it.

Oh? How wonderful! [It must be very exciting and fun for those people.] Have you named him?

[ It was indeed excitingly fun! ]

No, not yet. I've had a few suggestions thrown in by other people. Names such as Scorch, or Baum. Maybe Apollo. Do you have any ideas?

'Giraffe' might be a little too obvious? [The only father figure she ever knew called her 'Mantis' after all.]

[ That had Reign chuckling. ]

It might, yes. Though it wouldn't apply for those who haven't seen or heard of a giraffe before. What other names do you have in mind?

Perhaps... [And she's giving this serious thought, ok.] Raphael? You could call him 'Raph.'

[She's really bad at this.]

Oooh, like the angel? Raph sounds nice and easy. Elegant too.

[ But she was definitely not half as bad as Reign's naming sense. ]

It's quite similar to "giraffe" in a way. Giraffe and Raph. Raff raff.

[ Now he was giggling at his own joke. ]

[ Oooh~ She had quite a nice laugh. ]

It's a nice name, isn't it? I'll definitely have to narrow down the list of names for him.

Hello Reign. [She waves, laughter subsiding to a gentle smile.] I am Mantis. It is nice to meet you.

[The greeting is stiff, as if learned by rote, but it is, at least, genuine.]

[ At least neither of them thought the other's name weird. Which was good? ]

Greetings, Mantis. It's a pleasure to meet you too.

[ He waved back, smiling widely. Then he leaned closer to the screen, almost sheepish as he asked: ] May I ask what are those on your forehead?

[She reaches up and just barely brushes her fingers against the base of one of her antenna.] My antennae? What about them?

I've never seen anyone with them before. What do they do?

[ Reign was utterly curious. Did it work like he thought it would like a normal antennae? Or did it have other functions? ]

[For all that she's been asked that what seems like a million times, Mantis never has a good answer ready. She just blinks at him for a second before responding.]

I think they might have something to do with my abilities, but I'm not entirely sure. They glow when I use my empathic abilities.

[That's not weird, right? Lots of people have glowing antennae, yes?]

[ Reign probably knew what Mantis felt like when asked such questions. Heck, he was often asked about him what it was like being a vampire, etc. ]

Oh! That's interesting. So they're like an indicator. Does that mean you can read minds?

[ Because it sounded like it. ]

Oh, no. [This, she can and will eagerly talk about.] I feel emotions. I do not read minds. If I touch someone, I can feel what they are feeling.

Wow! How fascinating. A really useful ability, if I may say so.

[ Especially when applied on those who seemed emotionless, or their expressions were hard to read.

Reign didn't think his own pheromone ability would be well received. ]

But the antennae won't light up if you're not using your ability, is that right?

Do you really think so? I think some people are frightened of it.

[She had never considered that that might be the case until finding herself here. Now, she's almost too conscious of that possibility.]

No, not if I am not using my ability. I have to want to use it. I can't accidentally feel your emotions.

Ah, well, that may be true. People with special abilities are either revered or feared.

[ Reign understood very well, had even been the recipient when he was still in his home world. ]

At least it's something you can control. I'm sure it wouldn't have been pleasant for you if you could feel emotions even though you don't want to.
