Interesting. I've never heard of anything like that. Is it black and white? If you use magic to harm someone who is attacking another, is it still counted against you?

No, I think in that case you're trying to protect someone from harm.
Magic always had an element of power to it. Using magic to become too powerful would change anyone.

But is that because of magic? Or because of power? If you gave the same man or woman unimaginable wealth or political power, would they not be equally changed?

Maybe, but magic is limitless in a way that even wealth and political power are not.

Few things, I find, are truly limitless.

Where I'm from, magic has the potential to be the worst of it.

Everything has rules and limitations. Even magic.
But your point is taken, regardless.

Have you known many overly ambitious magic users then?

[sheriffing]

Yeah, I have. Ambitious enough to curse entire kingdoms.

That's a rather feudal term. May I take it you're from a world somewhat less advanced than this?

It's complicated. I'm from more than one world.

That sounds, to me, to be somewhat... impossible.

I was born in one, and immediately sent to another.

Define "world," if you wouldn't mind.

The kind where you can't reach it by boat, plane or any standard method of travel and instead have to jump through a portal to get there.

So, some sort of alternate dimension? Another plane of existence?

[sheriffing]

I think the differences between worlds are a little too strong to fall under the category of alternate dimension.

As large as the difference between the different worlds represented here?

Yeah, I'd say so. They aren't different versions of the same world, they exist on their own, with different people and rules.

Then this isn't your first time experiencing something of the sort.

Is it any less disorienting for you?

[sheriffing]

No, but there was always something to go back to until now.

It's less disorienting in the sense that I knew other-realm travel was possible. The rest of it is as disorienting for me as it is for everyone else.

Do you, personally, practice magic? If you could so easily go between worlds.

[sheriffing]

I do, but it was never much help in opening a portal.

What sort of magic did you practice, if I may ask?
