[ good morning everyone, hope you weren't hoping to sleep in on this marvelous TGIF, because coming atcha from your very own communication device is one (1) blue paladin of voltron, looking perhaps a little too happy, a little too excited. ]

so turns out theres a few things about this place thats pretty similar to my home world
and a little blue birdy tells me todays my birthday [ lol it's funny because his phone is blue........ ]

now back home my family would normally throw me a party but theyre uh
theyre kinda busy right now [ you know. fighting for their lives in sleep-mode and all. ]
and its a little too last minute to throw anything together anyway
but that doesnt mean we cant enjoy a few party games right?? [ if you can't already tell, he is pumped. games are, like, the second best thing about parties. (second to presents and cake, of course.) ]

since were all kinda scattered i thought we could all play one over this network
that way everyone gets to play!

and everyone who that applies to has to respond to you with a story about it!

[ okay so he... modified the game a bit. normally it involves drinking, bUT WHY ALIENATE THOSE WHO CAN'T, AMIRITE............. and besides if there is no birthday cake to be shared, might as well go for the next best thing, right? embarrassing stories! ] ]

[ When she seems him approach, her first thought is that he reminds her very distinctly of Gray (who is her future husband, though she doesn't know it), and she isn't exactly sure how she feels about that. The Charming Grin™ only amplifies that comparison, though she has no idea what kind of gesture he's making with his hands. Or what he's wearing. Or what's going on with "Defender of the Universe," though paladin gives her enough to surmise that he's a soldier. On a horse! Obviously.

All in all, she looks a little bewildered for a second there, but she recovers quickly enough with a friendly smile. ]

Mister Lance. It's a pleasure to make your acquaintance in the flesh!

[ She extends her hand... for him to kiss. ]

Please allow me to express my gratitude for coming all this way to assist me. I am truly grateful.

[ lance looks down at her proffered hand, looking lost for all of two and a half seconds before he suddenly recalls those period movies his older sister loved so much. hastily, he reaches up to grasp her hand — gently! gently! — and dips down to plant a swift kiss along her knuckles.

PERFECTION! WONDERFUL! NO SPARE SALIVA LEFT OVER OR ANYTHING!

Hey, no problem. Glad to be of help. It always breaks my heart when beautiful maidens like you are put through such inconveniences.

[ Yeah, maybe... he should do that... but if he doesn't, she'll just gently pull her hand out of his. He's literally the second person (out of many) who has actually gone ahead and kissed her hand, so she's delighted... and more willing to overlook the lingering grip. It's tough being a perfect gentleman!

She smiles, her tone lighthearted. ]

An inconvenience, to be sure, but I daresay it's nothing so dire as to be heartbroken over.

[ But please, do keep calling her a beautiful maiden. She certainly is one, in her own esteemed opinion. ]

But come, allow me to show you. [ She hands over her phone with a little flourish. It's not locked or anything, since she doesn't know how to do that... ]

[ she takes her hand away and a piece of his heart breaks off...

but wait she doesn't seem to be put off by him (yet) so there is still hope! his smile is crooked, boyish in its sheepishness, but at least now they're drifting into more familiar territory. ]

Oh, you got a smart phone like me. [ ??? godmods ig. ] Yeah, see, all you gotta do is open up one of your messages here—

[ now he's no hunk or pidge; he's not a genius with all this tech stuff, but turning off capslock? that he can definitely do. to preserve her privacy, he opens up the messages she has with him, and shows her how he double-taps the little arrow on the lefthand side. ]

You should be able to write with lowercaps now, no problem!

[ he demonstrates by writing himself a message: hello lance! :) youre amazing! <3 and sends it. his phone in his own pocket vibrates a second later. ]

Tap the arrow once to capitalize something, tap it twice to capitalize everything, then tap it twice again to remove it.

[ Yet is the key word here...

She leans in close, angling her head so that she can study what he's doing on the screen. Technology is a complete mystery to her, so she's wholly focused on watching the proceedings, her eyebrows lifting in amazement when he fixes the problem in about 2 seconds. ]

I see!

[ She eagerly takes her phone back so that she can experiment with tapping the arrow button a few times, delighted to see it light up and then turn off again... then she types out a couple of lowercase words with one finger... like a grandma... amazing. ]

Thank you very much indeed! It seems that you are truly skilled—are you very familiar with this type of device?

[ she gets close, and he tenses up out of apprehension. from here, he can get just a whiff of her hair — something sweet and floral, maybe? — and he has to fight to keep the blush from being too obvious by the time she takes her phone back again. ]

Oh, uh. Yeah, yeah, these things are... They're pretty common in my world! [ or these are the antiquated types??? who even knows... ]

[ There's something in his voice that makes her pause, still clutching her phone, and reexamine his reaction. Even though the blush on his face may be faint, she can still tell that she did something to fluster him a little.

She blinks, and then an impish smile spreads across her face. ]

My goodness, did I stand too close?

[ She's teasing him! She just wants to see how he reacts... ]

[ somehow, being called out like that only makes the blush on his cheeks deepen in hue. caught red-handed... red-cheeked... ]

N-No?

[ what is the actual right answer here. ]

You can stand even closer, if you wanted! [ quickly, damage control— ] I stand next to girls all the time! I have sisters!

[ sometimes, lance, silence is the answer... ]

[ Mila help them all, she's actually endeared by this reaction... and she also hasn't given up on teasing him. If anything, this just compels her, as if by some higher power, to call his bluff. ]

Is that so? Perhaps...

[ She steps closer, so that they're practically nose to nose. Well, her nose to... his chin, probably. ]

Here, then?

[ okay. okay. so she's practically all up in your space, that's okay, that's fine. your whole life has led up to this moment. you got this. you can do this.

[ Okay, now is the moment when she's put off by him. Like a balloon slowly losing air, her bravado deflates and she steps back to put more room between them, her expression transforming from mischievous to disappointed. ]

Oh dear...

[ Said in the same tone that one would say yikes. She sighs—and since she, as a person, is completely unable to keep her opinions to herself, she adds: ]

Was that meant to entice me?

[ he hesitates, recognizing a trick question when he hears one. on the one hand, if he said 'yes,' it would make obvious his blatant attempts to appeal to her, which totally negates the whole acting cool aspect of it in the first place!

but on the other hand, if he said 'no,' then that left him wide open for any number of rejections.

not that... that outcome isn't also the conclusion of the first hand............. ]

[ That... wasn't a remotely convincing no at all, and it just peeves her that he tried to lie to her. Unfortunately, she has experience being plied with compliments in such a fashion, and that turned out not so bad in the end—so her tone is more exasperated than anything. ]

This artifice is wholly unnecessary. I have very little patience for cajolery, and I daresay most other women do as well, if that is your aim.

[ Surely this is how he treats all women, and not just her in particular... what a terrible thought. Here, she'll give him some free advice— ]

In truth, I preferred your first reaction, as that was far more honest.

[ this obviously isn't lance's first rodeo. he already knows the telltale look of a woman who is 1000% Done with him, despite his best efforts, and so he is already counting his losses, gearing up to apologize, when she continues to speak, bringing up something so bewildering to him that he cannot help but stop and stare. ]

Wait — seriously?

[ he thinks back to the past five minutes and. nope. yeah he definitely didn't miss anything. ]

But that was so totally uncool!

[ That just brings a look of confusion to her face. ]

Uncool? What does any of this have to do with the temperature?

[ What a strange statement... well, anyway. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't believe her, and she thoroughly enjoys setting people straight, so—she shakes her head, and continues with: ]

As I said, it was far more honest. Can you name a single person who would prefer insincerity to its reverse? We women are not quite so silly that we cannot perceive the difference.

[ his mouth parts on an unspoken clarification, meaning to explain that particular phrase to her almost automatically (after spending enough time with keith, that kind of thing just becomes reflexive, lbr) but she carries on before he gets the chance. no matter... it's unimportant in the grand scheme of things. one lesson at a time... ]

It's... not insincere, [ he mumbles, but he knows it's an argument he's definitely losing. he glances away, idly scratching at a cheek. it's not as if he believes it to be insincere, anyway; every woman he meets is beautiful, in their own ways, and he's always charmed by all of them. then again, he's always known to put his best foot forward, even if that foot is made to look slightly better and more important than it actually is... ]

It's just. You know. Trying to make someone feel good! [ maybe it's because he himself is so inherently needy (it is) or that he craves that constant validation (it definitely is), but lance thinks if someone went around telling him how awesome and handsome and amazing he was, or how much he meant to them, he'd love it! wouldn't everyone?? ]

Anyway, that actually makes her reconsider, her eyes narrowing skeptically—but he seems to be in earnest. She's not so full of herself that she'll stand uncorrected forever. Could it be that he's just exceptionally awkward? ]

[ well — yes. but also? yes. in this case, lance would be the living embodiment of that "why not both?" meme. ]

I dunno, I mean... I know I'd definitely love it if someone wouldn't hesitate to tell me how great I was.

[ his true true goal, clair? is just to be liked. in any capacity. but that doesn't mean he isn't still a hot-blooded young man, hoping that "like" could maybe even turn into "like like." ]

And if they do it in like a real smooth, suave way like, like "Oh, you must be tired."

"From running around my dreams all night." and they wink and stuff? Oh man. How great would that be?

[ why yes he did just pitch his voice for that little display. someone give him an oscar from being able to easily switch from bond to bond girl. but anyway it's becoming strikingly obvious his frame of reference for anything here is omppetelt fictional. clair might not have action adventure movies in her time, but surely even medieval times have their share of james bond and bruce willis types. ]

Suddenly, that shifts him away from annoyance and more towards problem to be solved. Well...

Maybe he's still a bit of an annoyance, if only for that... whatever that bit was with the dreams. Her expression just flattens in response. ]

I... see. Has it occurred to you that it would perhaps behoove you to be more forthright? If you wish for someone to know that they are "great," as you say, then I daresay it would benefit you more to say so directly. It may not be your intent, but your method does come off as... rather disingenuous.

Certainly not! In these matters, sincerity is the most important aspect of them all! If you speak thus, there will be no doubt as to your true feelings.

[ Yeah, her kneejerk reaction is to be contrary. But then she exhales and—okay, maybe she was being a little harsh. At least she ain't too proud to admit it. ]

Perhaps you are right, and I was far too severe. After all, this hardly comes natural to you, no? I do believe that you simply need more practice!
