[ poe smiles when the video clicks on, friendly more than cheerful, given everything that's been going on. his hair is more tousled even than usual, and there's some sweat making his skin shine. ]

I grew up on a planet covered in jungle. [ for a moment, his smile grows warmer, if a little wistful. ] I figure not everyone here did, so it might be useful to share some tips.

First of all, water and food. There's plenty of both, but you gotta be careful. Best bet is to boil the water if it looks dingy, sometimes even if it doesn't. Stick to plants you know or someone's told you are safe for gathering those. If you're hunting, best avoid animals that are very colorful.

If you see a large animal and you're not actively hunting it and prepared to kill it, your best bet is probably to back away quietly and slowly. Oh, and watch out for insects. We don't know how many species here may be poisonous or carrying disease.

[ a beat, and his expression turns regretful. ] The last thing we need is for more people to get sick.

There's plenty civilization here. Unless you know how to handle yourself, maybe just stay in the city. But if you do find yourself in the jungle, be careful, all right?


( ooc: poe did grow up in the jungle, i know nothing about jungle living, so if anything is obviously wrong, please point it out to me and assume poe wouldn't have made stupid mistakes, ty )

[ peter parker's face is one that poe has come to know quite well. this isn't it, but it looks a lot like peter's face. poe squints for a long moment before he catches himself and stops staring.

though in his surprise, he doesn't comment or answer prior's question. instead: ] Are you related to Peter? [ he did not mention an older brother. ]

[priorly]

[Prior blinks widely through the sudden intent staring, taking a quick breath when the silence breaks.]

Oh. And here I thought I had something on my nose.

[xwings]

Sorry.

[ poe runs a hand through his hair, expression sheepish. ]

[priorly]

[Oh, well that's an unexpectedly sweet reaction from someone so starey. Prior's expression softens, too.]

Well. Not so far as we can figure out. He just looks as though he was created from my left rib. Do you know him well?

[xwings]

[ he was just surprised... ]

We're friends. [ poe is quick to make friends, so that's what peter is. does he know him well? maybe not, but better than most here. ] I'm Poe. Poe Dameron, hi. [ after all the staring, introducing himself is the least he can do. ]

[priorly]

[Not half as surprised as Prior, the first time. Fair enough.]

He seemed nice. Nice, in the manner of someone trying not to clutch his face and scream, but that was mutual. [Prior's a little self-conscious about all this, if he's honest. Comparisons to a healthy teenager are never likely to go well for him. He reaches to trace a hand across his own face, partly concealing it.]

Prior Walter. From New York, too. We're more of an urban jungle.

[xwings]

That must have been - strange. [ poe hasn't had any similar experiences yet, but he can imagine it.

the staring probably didn't help with any feelings of self-consciousness. if poe knew, he'd apologise again. ] The same rules probably don't apply there. [ not that these are hard and fast rules, exactly. just some common sense guidelines. ] If it's anything like the urban jungles I know.

[priorly]

And yet not even the strangest thing this month, can you believe.

[He peeks over the splayed fingers of his hand, curling them back to reveal a small smile.]

I fear I'm less cut out for this kind. It's so hot here, I feel feverish all the time. And the plants. I'm suspicious of the plants: they don't look as non-sentient as they're supposed to be. Not to mention the threat of hay fever. I think they have it in for me - I've been warning off a vine outside my room with trimming shears and a vase.

[xwings]

Honestly, I wouldn't put it past this place to have sentient plants.

[ which is as good as saying that yes, he can believe it. poe offers a smile in return. ] Did the vine listen?

[priorly]

It's making a show of it. I think only in order to crawl in through my window frame while I sleep.

[xwings]

Perhaps you should move the bed.

[ joking. mostly. ]

[priorly]

If it weren't beyond my strength, I'd give it some thought. Maybe I'll crawl into someone elses, for protection's sake.

...Are you living out in the wilds?

[xwings]

[ is prior hitting on him? poe blinks, unsure for a moment. it's not that no one's ever hit on him, far from it — he's been working at shades darker for the last few months; the fact that he worked there as a bartender hardly stopped anyone, but this is more subtle than that.

could be a genuine question. could be both. he shrugs, either way. ]

Not entirely in the wild. [ he's found an abandoned hut. not sure yet he'll stay there, but it'll do for now. ]

[priorly]

[Genuine question. Handsome as Poe is, Prior isn't trading in a casual market as yet.]

Slightly wild. Hot and cold running water but a tiger skin rug?

[Not entirely is a curious answer.]

[xwings]

[ good thing poe isn't the type to assume too much. ]

No tiger skin rug, but no hot water, either. Though I'm pretty sure I can fix that. [ he knows enough about mechanics to fix an x-wing half of the time. he can figure this out. ] Place was abandoned.

[priorly]

Well, that doesn't sound like the opening to a horror movie at all.

They have offered us housing with basic amenities. Someone told you, right?

[xwings]

Yeah, but I like the view from this place better.

[priorly]

One point in favor of the old abandoned place in the woods. Are you living alone?

[xwings]

No. [ poe's expression turns fond. ] I'm living with a friend and the world's noisiest droid. [ from somewhere in the background sounds a series of loud and very indignant-sounding beeps and whistles. ]

[priorly]

Like a... some kind of robot thing? [Prior's seen certain sci-fi movies, these things still aren't in his common vocabulary.]

[xwings]

Yeah. Hang on.

[ the video blurs for a moment as poe moves, and then focuses on a little orange-and-white round droid. ] Say hi, BB-8. [ cue more beeping and whistling. ]

[priorly]

Would you look at that. [Prior is looking at that. It looks like a couple of bowling balls with a personality, and if he didn't know better he'd swear it just said hello.] It's like it can see me!

...Can it see me?

[xwings]

He can, yeah. [ comes poe's voice from the off at the same time that bb-8 whistles a confirmation. ]

[priorly]

He.

[That whistle sounds like a scolding.]

Well I'm sorry, it's not like you have lipstick or stubble to work from. And even that's not always the indicator you'd expect. Hello to you, too.

[He was raised with manners, after all.]

[xwings]

[ bb-8 certainly has plenty personality, never let it be said otherwise. still, poe turns the camera back after a moment. ]

So, that's BB-8. He saved my life more times than I can count. [ a proud series of beeps from the background. ]
