[ Cheryl is sick. despite that, she's done her hair and makeup and dressed herself in a red silk robe. a lot of effort went into her appearance, but it does little to hide the fact that she's unwell. she looks tired. at home she was a pro at snapchat, and she holds the camera out at arms length. all that's missing is the puppy filter! ]

By now you've all heard of the great tragedy that's befallen us. I was caught right in the middle of everything, an innocent bystander in someone's very cruel plan to shake us all to the core. I don't scare easily and I don't wilt, but I could use your help in this trying time.

First: obviously i am confined to bed until I recover. You can entertain me by chatting with me and telling me your stories. Make sure they aren't boring.

And secondly: If you're able-bodied, perhaps you can avenge me. [ she pauses. smiles. ] Us. It's the right thing to do.

[ and as she ends the video: ] Hashtag Olympia Strong. [ yes, that's right. hashtag. this is Cheryl Blossom, after all. ]

An Emperor? That's an option? [ that's the kind of job she could go for. ] How'd you get that?

[vorrutyer]

Well, step one, be in line for the throne. Step two, have literally everyone ahead of you in line for the throne be put into cold storage.

[sweetwater]

Oh. [ there goes Cheryl's shot at royalty. ] Seems disappointing to take the throne and have nothing to rule over.

[vorrutyer]

Don't be silly - it's a relief! Could you imagine how intimidating it would be, having all that responsibility? No, I've been rescued from quite a lot of stress and worry. Which would give me wrinkles. And ruin my beautiful face.

[sweetwater]

[ she laughs. ] I understand. But I assume you use the title with the ladies?

[vorrutyer]

Well, not the local ladies. That'd take a bit too much explaining, given our esteemed alien overlords want us to keep mum about our otherworldly origins. But other refugee ladies...I must say, though, I haven't had a good track record with it so far. Most of our eligible bachelorettes are quite unimpressed.

[sweetwater]

Unimpressed? With an Emperor? [ she's teasing just a lil bit. ] They don't know what they're missing out on.

[vorrutyer]

You're completely right.

[ With mock-affront: ]

I ought to order my forces to wage war against their indifference. Which would consist of my forces making more of an effort to clothe me flatteringly, I suppose. But it seems they want actual positive personality traits instead of just titles, which is so utterly backwards...

[sweetwater]

I find you very charming. What else could a woman ask for? [ she shrugs. ] This entire place is upside down. Nothing makes sense.

[vorrutyer]

Well, thank you, my dear Cheryl. I find you charming as well.

Tell me, though - are you doing all right, though? In spite of how odd everything is?

[sweetwater]

[ her gaze wanders away and back to him again. is she doing all right? has she ever been doing all right? not since Jason died, if she's honest. and probably not before that, either. but things are different now, and Jason is sleeping instead of dead. ]

It isn't my preferred environment but I'm settling in and I intend to flourish.

[vorrutyer]

Hm.

[ He taps the side of his nose. ]

There was a little hesitation there, I notice.

[sweetwater]

[ people do not typically call Cheryl on her bullshit, and she looks appropriately cross with him. ]

Must be a delay on the call. You know how technology is.

[vorrutyer]

Of course. How foolish of me.

[ He lowers his head in a bow. Then he raises it again, studying her. ]

Have you found a job here, dear lady?

[sweetwater]

Easy mistake. [ he lets her save face, and she appreciates that. ]

I've never had a job before.

[vorrutyer]

I suppose you are a bit young for that, true. What are you good at?

[sweetwater]

[ bullying, mostly. ]

I'm a good dancer, an excellent leader, and I have a 4.0.

[vorrutyer]

A four point...?

[sweetwater]

At school. It means I have all As. [ and maybe that's not helpful? ] Top marks, in all my classes.

[vorrutyer]

Ah! So you're smart, eh?

[sweetwater]

Very.

[vorrutyer]

And modest...
