[ another day, another video feed. brothel Doctor John Watson, back at it again with the getting all up in your medical business. straight in, this time, with the bustling noise and warm light of a busy Sanctuary as a backdrop to what he's got to say. ]
If you're feeling run down or you find yourself getting sick over the next couple of days, please get in touch with staff at the Sanctuary— especially if you were at the site of the attack or have been in close contact with someone else who's caught something. Now isn't the time to be stubborn about it, we don't know what this is yet. If you're feeling rough, come in. It's well staffed, the easiest place to keep you monitored and comfortable, and the first place medicines will be delivered to when they're ready. We could also do without you infecting anyone else.
[ this is the one and only time he's ever going to advocate otherwise healthy people clogging up medical resources for flu symptoms, but this is not only the result of biological weaponry but biological weaponry from a world none of them originate from and he's not here for underestimating the potential results.
also because he literally JUST made a post about how some people aren't going to want to have to attend the Sanctuary, and there may be people on that wanted list who are struggling and not in a position to go the conventional route in looking for help... he takes a second to make sure of the wording in his head, and then: ]
If that isn't an option for you, you can get in touch with me at this contact address. Likewise if you find yourselves stuck in an unrelated medical emergency.
If you'd rather not contact me, I'll attach a list of refugees who may be able to help as a response to this post.
Look after yourselves. Don't be heroes.
[ and he's out ]
j.watson: medical contacts
( ooc: the list is currently comprised of characters who responded to John's last post indicating interest in offering medical help in an emergency but it's fully editable! if you've got a healer-type character who would want to be contactable in this capacity, feel free to add their name and contact. equally, if you'd rather people don't contact your character for this plot but they're on the list, just take them off or give me a shout and I'll do that for ya. thanks! )

[ If it sounds like she's outside, if she's moving at a jog, it's because she is. Her patrol route is on the outskirts of the city but she's making her way towards the commotion. ]
I need you to do a favour for me at the Sanctuary.

[ quick, efficient. they're both in the middle of something ]

[ actually, though - and he quickly privates the feed, tucks himself away somewhere the noise of the Sanctuary will cover him, ]
What's your stance on this?
private
[ It sounds — simplistic, maybe, or idealistic. She doesn't yet know how justice works in this city but she has to assume it's not too different from what she knows. Peggy slows her run, exhaling noisily, and turns a corner into an alley so she might speak more freely. ]
The thing is, I might have suspected something was coming. Not this, exactly, but... Looking back on my first assignment with the Guard, maybe I should have guessed.
private
Why do you say that?
[ not that it's his place to ask after her assignments, but... ]
private
There was a bombing in another colony a few months ago. I captured the person responsible. [ Or at least, that's what she was told. ] I made sure she never got inside the city limits, but with what's just happened, there's clearly a bigger network at play here.
private
Right.
I don't think our lot are active participants in this. Doesn't make sense. We've been here - what, a few months? Some of them presumably just the one. And now they're on a wanted list of traitors to a society they're barely a part of? I don't know all of them, and I don't pretend to know the ones I do well, but I can't fit them into the narrative.
private
[ She breathes out, frowning. It's local politics. The question is whether or not they should really be involved, but — this is their home now, isn't it? This is all they've got. There's no going back, there's nothing to go back to. ]
But whoever's behind it doesn't seem to have any problem with getting our lot involved. Olympians and refugees were affected by that attack, I don't think there was any specific target. And now they've got us chasing after our own when we don't know a thing about El Nysan history or how this fits into the existing narrative.
[ So... why? To incite fear and panic, yes, they're tools to destabilise. Sow unrest and unease. But why? ]
private
[ a pause as some commotion comes too close - John quiet for a second or two to relocate. ]
This is dangerous. If Olympia comes down hard, God only knows how any of us are going to respond. I can say "ours" all I like, but we're not a united front by any means.
[ unrest and unease with not just the two factions but a third, consisting of hundreds of unpredictable units. it's not a great situation by any stretch of the imagination. ]
private
[ Maybe it's because she's only two years out of the war, maybe it's because she came from a time where unease was brewing with Russia and they were watching them like hawks. Maybe she's just on edge because war is all she's known for years. But saying this could be nothing would be naive and foolish. No one attacks innocent people on a whim. There's always got to be more to it. ]
I don't know what they intend to do with the culprits, but I intend to march over to the Royal Guard headquarters and ask before getting to work. [ She's not one for blindly following orders. ] Right now, there's just too much we don't know, which means we can't bloody prepare for what's next. They made it quite clear there's more coming and we can't take that warning lightly.
private
they're in no position to talk tactics and forward planing here, separated by distance and the different noise of outdoors and in. there's no point, and it'll be all too easy to get themselves wound up - as if he doesn't feel like a thoroughly coiled spring already. ]
No, we can't. But we'll do what we can when we can.
For now, can you let me know if you manage to find out what the Royal Guard are thinking on this? It'll decide whether or not I need to make myself into a traitor to the Olympian empire, so. Fun stakes.
private
I beg your pardon?
private
A safehouse. I'd just need to provide the location and Charles could fortify it against discovery. I don't know that Olympia would be overly happy with anyone going out of their way to harbour a fugitive or two.
private
Peggy wets her lips and drops her voice as well. ]
Well, I've never been a fan of "guilty until proven innocent." So far it seems the evidence is circumstantial — wrong place, wrong time, that sort of thing.
[ All the more reason to know what they've got planned for them. Why would anyone not from around here get tangled up in local politics? A naive question, maybe. Money and power are strong temptations. ]
Who do you know?

[Obviously enough by now. She's pleased, or at least as pleased as one can be under imminent chaos.]

[ doesn't bode overly well, this, for the future of life in this place. then again, they were never promised a peaceful life. ]
I'm taking some samples over to the Institute in a second. Need anything on my way back?

[She glances about off screen, thinking.]
I honestly can't think of anything better than a cure.

[ things are mad, and last time they were in a situation like this she was the one doing the looking out for him. time to return the favour - he's not here in any official capacity, which leaves him more free to roam. ]

No, actually. Probably should.

Honestly, any time the hands are free and willing.

[ there's laughter implied in that last part, some sense of play (he doesn't represent the entire staff base of the Sanctuary, but is absolutely certain they're all knackered and will be highly appreciative of extra help), but also Seriously. Thank You. ]

It's the least I can do, when you're already doing so much. [and part of her selfishly hopes this will allow her to stay away from violence, rather than aiding in something peaceful - even if the sickness itself is an act of war] When should I start?
