Good evening.
[ The feed clicks to life to a modestly dressed (that is, modest in means, not necklines) but well-kept young woman, seated in the likely familiar mid-level chaos of refugee housing. The walls are not well-painted, and the quarters a bit close, but it's what they're all dealing with, or have recently, and Max is no exception. ]
Like the rest of you, I am finding myself starting over in this place — finding work, building a life. Given the nature of our presence here, displaced from our homes and our histories, it seems the only base of support many of us may have is each other.
So I wondered if those of you who have found your feet might share — what work have you found yourselves suited to here? How are you making your way in this world? Or how do you plan to, if those plans have not yet come to fruition?
And how does that compare to your ambitions? Is the position your hold now everything you had hoped for, [ unlikely, her tone suggests, but feel free to surprise her, ] or is there more that you would seek to accomplish? Perhaps there are others here who could lend their aid, or whose ambitions might align with your own.
[ Perhaps Max can help. c: ]

I have been looking into either the guard or mercenary work, to be honest. But my plan is to do as I did back in my world. I made a vow. I swore to carry on the ideals of my fallen comrades. I promised to restore hope to my troubled world. I will seek out tyranny and evil where ever it might take root and I will bring the hammer of justice down upon the wicked.
I traveled to where there are those who needed my help, who needed a knight to protect them, and I did so with every ounce of my being. That was my goal there. I was a Free Knight, helping all in my path. I was this and still am this. My quest does not change, no matter where I am.
black sails spoilers in narrative
It seems to me that mercenary work may allow you to maintain more control over who you lend your aid to. But then, I supposed that depends how often you imagine the people who need your help will also be in a position to pay you — or how comfortable you are taking work that is somewhat less righteous.
[ Even knights need to eat, surely. ]
Do you work alone, or is your intent to join a crew of some kind either way?
no subject
I think you would be right. If I declare allegiance to one side or another, then I can't help the other side. If I remain open, then I can go and help whoever needs it, without borders or boundaries to impede me.
[ And now he laughs. It's not a cruel thing. It's a very warm and amused thing. ]
Fraulein, a knight does not do what he does to get paid. He does it because it is the right thing to do. I would never assume to take anything from the people I help but what they would freely give to me of their own heart. Even if that is nothing but the smile on the face of a child.
But [ Now he looks more serious, more the warrior he claims to be. Older, more haggard. ] I have broken the laws of my land to do this. What I do, going after the criminals that harm others, it's illegal. But when the law no longer cares for or is able to help the people who suffer, I will. Even if that means I don't eat, even if that means I don't have anywhere to sleep. Even if that means I am arrested and jailed.
[ And the sad thing is that he truly believes in his cause, even if it's a fool's errand and impossible. ]
I will work with a crew if I need to, but I have a feeling that most of my adventures will be alone or with one or two other people. [ Because most other people are pragmatic and want to have money. ]
