[ Settled into a corner of one of the smaller cafes that dot the Entertainment District, David sips on a mug of something warm and fragrant as he works on gathering his thoughts. He’s still wearing Cassian’s jacket, which he’s yet to return, but otherwise seems to be in good spirits despite a small lizard-like creature doing its best to gnaw on his fingers. ]

So, I figure this might be a shot in the dark — or maybe I’m better off looking around the Station — but I was wondering if there was any information available on the local celestial bodies, constellations, charts, that kind of thing.

It’s been awhile since I studied.

[ Years, honestly, but anything has got to be better than sitting around at the starter housing, twiddling his thumbs and waiting for inspiration to strike. That and there was a lot to be learned from things like this, from the names and the stories people spun around their stars and planets. ]

Don’t want to get rusty.

You could try the institute. Their library is decent.

I sense a "but" in there somewhere. [ Though will be adding the Institute to the top of his list. ]

If there is one, I haven't found it yet.

[ Which should be good enough for anyone. If Charles can't spot it, chances are other people won't either. ]

Must just be the paranoia getting to me, then. [ Not even his own for a change. What a novelty. ]

You don't think they'd mind my looking?

[ Charles rubs his chin thoughtfully. ]

It seems to be open for the most part. I work there myself as a part-time lecturer and researcher.

Do the stars speak, in your own world?

[immeasurably]

I used to think so, growing up. [ The truth was a little more complicated, but it was still a nice thought. ]

My dad, he studied them.

[illuminescent]

I am overfond of stars.

[There's a pause.]

Do you study them as well?

[immeasurably]

[ David nods slowly. ]

I did. I had to stop for awhile, because I was sick, but I'm better now and would like to go back to it if I can.

There must be some. But perhaps a little distraction and enjoyment could be found in making one's own, though they may not be exactly accurate...

[he's remembering summer nights on the roof, making his own "charts" as a child. But the little lizard creature has given him pause and he trails off a bit]

What is that?

[ Rubbing at his chin, David's expression turns thoughtful. ] I guess I could always try, though you're not wrong and I'd probably need access to the proper tools.

A friend tells me the Institute is worth looking into so maybe I'll try that first and then look into alternatives. [ He definitely intends to take another trip around the Observation Deck if possible, see if someone might not be able to offer him some insight.

Then his gaze drops to the small reptile, brows lifting. ] Some kind of lizard. There are a few of them here but this little guy seems determined to get his fifteen minutes of fame. [ Leaning forward, David carefully moves to pluck the little fellow from his hand, holding it up to the camera to be inspected. ]

Well that depends on whether you want charts professionally done or not. Or if you are just looking for something to occupy yourself with. Though I'm sure it will do one little harm to know how the constellations are laid and what they are truly called...!

[a light chuckle at the creature as it is held up.]

He's quite handsome. Perhaps he wishes you to make a pet out of him?

Good point. [ David rubs at his chin, expression turning thoughtful. ] Right now I guess it comes down to what's more important: making bank or keeping busy.

[ And, if he's lucky, finding a solution that allows him to do both. ]

Isn't he? [ The lizard seems unconcerned with its sudden network debut, though David sets it down again after a moment before it can become uncomfortable. ] There's a bunch of them here. I think it might be some kind of thing for them.

And thanks, I guess. Been trying to think of ways to keep myself busy but my skill-set is probably a little niche, and I doubt I'd be much of a barista.

What did you do back home?

Man, and I thought I had bad luck with the job market.

I was studying astronomy a few years back.

Figured as much. What they have here is probably a little more on the antiquated side.

[ Worth taking a look at sure, but more out of academic curiosity than any expectation of accuracy. ]

If nothing else it'll give me an excuse to practice teleporting.

It's detailed enough, but the room isn't always free for access.

Guess it makes sense. Can't exactly do what you're meant to if the room's packed full of people.

[Despite the humor in his heavily accented voice, Cassian is not kidding.]

The station would be easier if they weren't delaying our access to the observation room. I'll see what I can dig up in the meantime. You'll have a better view from up there, though. Clearer, if a bit more constrained.

You could start approximating a chart, something to compare against later on in the next season.

Hey, you want it back so badly you're more than welcome to come and take it. [ Likewise there is a twist of humor as he says it, lifting his mug in a sort of mock salute to the screen. ]

I suppose appealing to their better nature isn't going to help? [ It's a rhetorical question, though he's not above humbling himself if he must. ]

Seems like that might be where this is headed. Think I might still try the Institute as well. See if I won't have more luck there. It'll at least give me somewhere to start.

Not likely. Seems we will have to build some trust up before we can make those kind of negotiations.

[He can do that. They can do that. Assuming neither of them makes a mistake they will come to regret.]

What institute? [Cassian's focus has been on the overall world so much, he hasn't paid much attention to individual establishments yet. At least his roommate seems to be useful in gathering extra information on his own. Between the two of them, they'll soon have this place worked out.

Well, I guess that makes sense. You don't exactly let just anyone loose in a room with that kind of equipment just because they say please.

[ It's disappointing, sure, but he'll get over it.
