[It takes a short while for Venom to adjust his device as he turns on the feed. He feels the device itself is cumbersome and wonders why they can't just switch over to magic coms like normal people. A few moments of silence (and Venom's hair eye staring into the camera) later, he begins:]

I suppose I should start with a good afternoon to all of you.

The reason why I've decided to do this is because of the intentions of my former organization. [And the previous talks about murder and murder-related things.] We were dealt a heavy blow by an antagonistic force, someone who felt we were going to interfere with their plans. As the leader, I came to a difficult decision. I felt if we were to survive, we needed to operate in the light of day, to come out of the shadows for good.

What were we, you might ask?

We were assassins.

It's not something I was ever proud of doing, nor do I plan on going back to that profession. My unhappiness was fueled by it, even though I voluntarily took the leadership role. I feel that if I am to continue living in the light, I wish to be open and honest about my past.

[The feed shuts off as Venom hopes he did the right thing.]

I think being completely detached from any organization helps. It's certainly helped me here, I think.

What helped was knowing I was no longer expendable. [It's said with humor, at least?

And then the smile goes a bit superficial--not that Venom could see it, either way. Ah well.]

How old were you?

[the question has Venom tilting his head slightly.]

When I first was recruited? Or do you mean how old I was when I had my first target?

Either, really, if you're comfortable sharing.

I don't fully recall when I was recruited, only that I moved from an orphanage to the Guild's quarters.

My first target is something I'd rather forget.

It sounds like you were a bit younger than I; I was seven when the Crows bought me. Three sovereigns! They thought it quite the bargain at the time.

[He chuckles.] Likely not so much now. I've caused them a bit of trouble in the last few years.

[Moving on, though. He's quiet for a moment, lost in his amusement at the memory, then continues. He sounds more somber now.]

I thought once about trying to get rid of some of those memories. For years they were the only thing I owned. I suppose in a way, even the terrible things are precious to me.

I can understand that line of thinking, but I'm not sure if I'd be strong enough to own such memories.

[He's always been on the kind, sensitive side.]

I guess it's safe to say it's all behind me, now.

I'd say it's more because I didn't want a blood mage mucking about in my head, but thank you for the compliment.

And yes, that's certainly the plan. [Barring if Senren needs something "handled," but that's not terribly likely.]

A blood mage...? I'm almost afraid to ask.

So this is a good spot for both of us to officially turn over a new leaf?

Very much so! As to the blood mages, that's a very long story. The short version is mages who contract with demons for power and use blood as another mage would use mana. They also have a habit of taking over other's minds. Not very pleasant people, all in all.

Contracting demons never turns out well. I've heard a few stories about it where I'm from, but they don't use the blood of another mage.

[Some even guard giant puddings. Or so Venom's heard...]

Mm. The blood of anyone, really. Sometimes even their own, though mostly they prefer to use slaves. It's common in Tevinter.

[There's a brief beat of silence, and he continues in better humor.]

But I digress! And not into the most pleasant subject.

It isn't, but despite the unpleasant subject, I don't mind hearing about other people's lands. Helps me get to know others a bit better.

[The whole "trying to be more social" thing and all.]

Quite true. And other than home, what have we to talk about?

The weather, but even that can get boring after a while.
