[Alex is sitting somewhere, and she's got a mug of coffee in front of her, along with a note pad and a pen. She smiles, but there's an undercurrent of nervousness in it because while multiple people have told her she could be on television, Alex's preferred medium has always been radio and podcasts. She's not quite sure what to do with her hands (they'd normally be on the control box) when she speaks so she picks up a pen and rolls it between her fingers.]

Hi! Um. Like a lot of you I'm a [kidnapee?] refugee and I need to find a job. Back home I worked as a reporter, and I'm hoping that I'll be able to use my skills doing the same thing here. I'd give you some references but I'm afraid that they probably wouldn't do you any good anyway now. [And she doesn't want to explain either what a podcast is, or how hers won a best of Apple award in 2015. So for now just a reporter will work.]

But my name is Alex Reagan and I've been working in the business since college, so I've got a fair amount experience. Thanks?

[Stupid camera, stupid being uncomfortable on camera, and Alex just turns it off with little preamble.]

Do you have any schools where you are from?

Schoolrooms.

In a manner. Not at Buckkeep, but certainly, at other keeps. Ones with more children.

Okay do you have anything like a seminary school maybe? A place where someone might go and study to be a priest?

[badgerlock]

Oh. Monasteries. Yes, we have them - well, we don't, not in the Six Duchies, but in the south. I know what they are, is the point.

So you studied to be a reporter as one studies to be a priest.

Yeah, college is where you study certain things and I studied journalism there, and wrote for the school paper. Then I went onto radio which is telling stories like we're doing now.

[badgerlock]

[There's a pause, and Fitz almost does it, almost, but then he decides not to ask what's a radio.]

Do you sing?

[11calls]

Only when I'm drunk!

[badgerlock]

Well we share that.

[Fitz is laughing a little.]

Too bad. A song on this entire affair might cheer everyone up.

Or it might inspire someone to punch the person singing it. I wouldn't be inspired at that. I'd be angry.

[badgerlock]

No one harms minstrels where I come from. It's bad luck.

Unfortunately that's not true of reporters. Especially not when and where I come from.

[It's not as if someone didn't just try and kill her right before she got here or anything. No.]

[badgerlock]

Well, I will gladly lend you my swordhand, if you should need it. I am bothered by the notion someone might hurt a minstrel, my world or no.

[He remembers the guards breaking Starling's fingers, and how he couldn't do anything about it.]

You don't live long and well if you don't assume there might be.

That seems to be the same with a lot of people from different worlds.

[it's clear that alex is sincere. ]

Did you see anyone you know in the tubes?

Yes.

[Wife. Except Molly is not his wife, not anymore.]

Well. My world.

At least you know that they're safe so they'll come join us here eventually, right?

[That dangling 'my' sounds more than a little familiar so she speaks with a soft and reassuring smile.]

Maybe if you ask there's a way to get them to hurry things up?
