[ an eyepatch-wearing dog's (or is it a wolf's) face appears in the feed. as though he was the one who was making the post.

as it just so happens, he might have been, with a very proud-looking man, coming into the frame to give him a scratch behind the ears. ]

[ the point of this exercise was twofold. to get to know a little more about his fellow refugees and what they held dear. and, well... maybe a small part of him wanted to show off his "son's" rather impressive skills. but, he would absolutely never admit that. ]

Everyone, this is DD. [ at the sound of his name, he gives an affirmative "bark", and Ocelot nods. ] All right, DD. Can you type "hello world" for everyone?

[ the dog (or wolf, who really knows) gives him a look, but sure enough, some text begins to appear on the screen. ]

[ a valiant effort... for a dog. Ocelot shakes his head, but gives DD a pat on the head for effort. ]

Well... maybe we just need a bit more practice.

[ DD barks in approval yet again, tail wagging. ]

How many of you have had friends like DD returned to you lately? How many of you are still waiting? Both of us [ he gives DD another pat on the head. ] are interested to hear what you have to say.

[ and he looks back to DD, and gives a nod. ]

[ and the dog nudges the feed, once, twice, before it's turned off again. ]

He's trying. It might've been too much right off the bat for him out of cryo.

He's been missing an eye since we found him as a pup. The eyepatch suits him though, I think.

[ Sure, this is a statement of obvious fact, but it's also a badass fact and needs to be called to attention. Why doesn't Peo have an eyepatch...

Speaking of Peo, though, Prompto disappears from the screen for a moment so he can hoist this pooch onto his lap. There's a lot of laughing and wriggling and fumbled sounds as Peo tries uncompromisingly to lick Prompto's face. They have fun. ]

This one's my furry friend! No eyepatch, but he's a mastermind at tug of war. [ Peo yaps in confirmation. ] I adopted him here - in Olympia, I mean - but...did DD just...show up all of a sudden?

[ Because he had some other, non-pet things show up like that. ]

[ as though it's a totally normal thing. thankfully, DD seems to suffer no ill-effects, considering he's been without it since they found him as a puppy.

Something like that. He was sent down from the station after apparently being in quarantine. I'm glad to have him back, regardless. As you can see, he needs to keep up with his training.

Something like that. The first time I asked about him, they said he was in "quarantine", but eventually they just sent him to me.

[ as for the rest... that's a good question. ]

We're not too sure, actually. He's probably got a bit of husky and malamute in him.

[ the barks are returned in full, though cut off surprisingly quickly. someone on the other line must've given the signal to be quiet. ]

I'd hope so. It's been long enough.

[ and while he wouldn't say it, he was unimpressed with the inability to do anything to help. ]

Have you had a chance to go back yet?

[ he'd tried to make it a habit to discretely check up on a stasis pod or two. it might be telling to see if anyone else was keeping tabs on their loved ones.

[This method of communicating (being able to speak much whatsoever) is a huge adjustment for her (which! is why she's only been a little more recently realizing people use the network fairly often, and is trying to keep up), and so she's clueless about how to switch between functions. Not that she could film or type both, anyhow, and frankly, she'd never think of filming herself. Despite the fact it can't be heard, she's still whining excitedly when she types:]

[ looking at the user name... well. there was someone else who looked like they also had a go of trying to teach their dog how to type.

he passes the device over to DD and gives him the command to type "hello". ]

I'm trying to train him to use his nose. He's pretty smart, so I'm sure with practice, I can get him to type at least the simple words.

[ because hey. he can use a knife with his teeth so this shouldn't be too hard. ]

[ he's obviously speaking to the dog... but once he gives a little wave, his attention shifts to its human. ]

That's so neat that your furry friend woke up for you! [ he starts to look thoughtful. ] I don't have a pet myself back home, but my friend's got some space mice... I wonder if any of them are gonna wake up for her soon. I bet she would really like the company.

Thanks. I'm real proud of him. [ he'll assume it's about the dog. while he might be many things, he does genuinely care for his "son". ] Not usually. Normally, I mostly train him, while he goes out with a friend of mine. But that friend's still in stasis.

[ and who knew how long he'd be there? and given his fragile psyche, if he'd be fine when he woke up. ]

I'm glad too. We picked him up when he was still a puppy.

[ DD gives an affirmative bark at the screen while Ocelot observes Sansa. she'd caught his curiosity the first time they met, and now his curiosity is further piqued. ]

[ Robb signs onto the feed after only a momentary hesitation; it seems more and more refugees are earning the Orbiters' trust, regaining their furry and feathered companions (else paying considerable coin — he's not written off this idea, anxious on some late nights for the wise, alert warmth of Grey Wind at his side).

It's both encouraging and a tad... worrisome, seeing these bonds restored. He almost wonders if their companions would be safer aboard the station. ]

What a handsome lad. [ Despite his quiet concerns, Robb's grin is stretched ear to ear. ] Welcome to the fold, DD.

[ though the username gives him some pause. ]

He's not quite as big as a dire wolf [ so he'd imagine. there were old folk tales about giant wolves, but he'd never put much credence into those. more likely they were based off of stories of ancient wolf fossils. or something like that. he wasn't the most avid follower of science. ] but he pulls his weight.

[ DD gives Ocelot a look as though he's slightly offended. ]

I'm still waiting for my friends... honestly, there's only three people I'm hoping will wake up soon. They're the closes thing I have to a family and one of them I haven't seen in awhile; I got a promise I need to keep.

[ Even if their home is destroyed, she'll make it work somehow. ]

You might try asking the Orbiters about them. That's what I did for this guy here.

He'll eat just about anything, but he really likes raw steak.
