[Here is one disgruntled English lady. You might have seen various shades of this annoyance after the pods plummeted to the earth, checking for injuries (maybe on you, personally), or more recently at the Sanctuary collecting blood. Apparently, the latter is why she's deemed it necessary to post.]

Thought I'd drop a quick word, given some of my experiences since we've all come together.

Now, I understand we all come from various worlds and times, with vastly differentiating forms of medicine, but I'm sure it's safe to say that bloodletting is not the preffered sort of medicine people want here. I don't care if someone here handed you a knife, of if that's what you're used to doing. That is not how you collect blood. You use a needle, and hopefully it's held by someone that knows how to find a vein. If you'd like to learn, I'd be happy to teach you.

Secondly? Your blood, assuming you're... human, or what the biologically average human is, is going to be used by anyone who needs it, rich or poor. The blood of a king is not going to make a beggar on the street suddenly somehow contend for a throne that doesn't even bloody exist in this world.

[There's a pause in which she almost calls a certain someone named Richard out, but she's a better woman than that. Just barely.

There's a flicker of a forced smile.]

I assure you. When I was learning, we'd practice drawing blood on one another. It can hurt if done improperly, but even then, I've had worse pains from bumping into furniture.

Are you planning on sticking with the healing profession here? Working for... Lysa, I think her name was?

Lysa, you're right. I don't think any of the other job opportunities I've seen here suit me as well. I worked in a charity hospital, for a time, and I enjoyed it. The clinic here isn't very different.

[She just feels a little... out of her league, knowing that there are people who can heal with magic.]

Something like that. Or maybe a little more like a guard? More protecting people than protecting rules.

[There's no real need for the vagueness anymore but old habits and all.]

I imagine familiar work makes settling in here easier...

[He's still hemming and hawing on the gainful employment thing himself. It seems like it's pretty necessary in El Nysa, unless you're a big fan of outdoor living or constantly teleporting back to the Station for food and a bed, but... it's going to be a whole new ~~world~~ experience for him.]

If you don't mind my asking, what was it like applying for the job? [He hesitates a second.] She didn't ask too many questions, did she...? About where you're from and all that?

It does. It's more about keeping busy, I feel. If there wasn't a clinic opportunity, I would have found something else.

[Idle hands lead to idle thoughts and she knows how she gets when there's nothing to keep her moving.]

No. Lysa, at least, was more interested in skill and temperament than hearing about experience.

Yeah. I try to always have something to keep busy with, too. I've been spending most of my time here training, keeping my fighting skills sharp... [So as to someday help stop the Storm and also kill an old man. One of these goals might be slightly more realistic than the other.]

That's good to hear about Lysa. [He should probably focus on finding protection-type jobs, maybe even apply for that Royal Guard he's heard about, but if nothing like that works out...] How much training did you have to go through to become a healer? Back in your world.

['Healer training' can't take too long to complete, right? Certainly not years and years and... years.]

It depends on what sort of healer you want to be. I spent years learning how to treat the sick, and it takes even longer than that to mend the flesh. But some things, like drawing blood or administering medication, can take a short time.

[She decides to put the offer on the table.]

If you're interested in learning, I'm sure Lysa wouldn't mind you dropping by the Sanctuary to observe.

Well, I've got Cure spells so I think I could be of at least a little help right away. But Cure only works on wounds, not sickness or poison, curses or anything else. And I only have so much energy... mana, to work with.

[Training would definitely be required for him to be useful enough to keep around. To pay.]

I'll give it some thought.

[He can't say he has any interest in devoting whole years to becoming a... full-fledged healer, a professional like this woman, but if he has to make munny and he can't make it protecting, helping people in some other way doesn't sound like such a bad idea. If Lysa will allow him to hang out a bit, try and learn a thing or two, that is.]

No. Just the old fashioned way, I'm afraid. Magic isn't very... about, in my world. But I have seen it.

Right. Do you think you'd learn any of it, if you had the chance? Or... happy patching people up the old fashioned way?

[A good question. Very good, actually.]

I don't know. If it were possible, perhaps. I know next to nothing about magic.

It should be possible... Every world's different when it comes to magic, but there's plenty of it here, between locals and Refugees. Someone should be able to awaken your potential for magic. If you decide that's what you want.

For what it's worth, I wasn't born with it, either. And I had kind of a hard time picking it up. But once you get going with it, it's easy.

If someone from my world heard you talking like that, they'd either burn you at the stake or toss you into an asylum. [Depending on the time period.]

[He's not sure what she means by 'asylum' but burning at the stake he gets. He's heard about that kind of thing. Worlds that reject magic completely. Thankfully, they're supposed to be rare.]

They'd have to catch me first and I think they'd have a hard time with that.
