Hello! I'm 9S, and I'm testing out the capabilities of these devices we've been given. I'm just looking at some technical stuff so, uh, feel free to disregard if it's not your sort of thing.

I know we've all lost our homes recently and that's pretty rough to deal with, but... if you wouldn't mind, could you tell me if you came from Earth? And if you did, what did you like about it?

[ A beat. ]

You can do that if you're from somewhere else too! Earth's the only planet I had experience with before coming here, but I'd be happy to hear about other worlds as well.

[ There's more than one way to gather information. ]

[ well, what's the harm in sharing some basic information. ]

Earth. I wouldn't say I really like anything about it, though. [ he has a very strained personal relationship with his planet. ]

[idealog]

Anything at all?

[ 9S has a complicated relationship with Earth, but he's surprised to hear that it wasn't all great before his time. ]

[fakers]

It isn't a terrible place... simply not for me, I suppose. It's an odd question, isn't it? For most people, Earth is all they've ever known. How can you truly appreciate something if you've never been without it?

[ though... they are kind of without it now, he supposes. ]

What about you, then? What do you love so much about that world?

[idealog]

I can see what you mean. Earth might be all someone's ever known, but maybe coming to a new world isn't such a terrible thing?

[ Some people could miss Earth, but this situation doesn't have to be a disappointed. ]

Some of the memories I had there were pretty nice. Not all of them, though.

[fakers]

I'm fairly certain anyone could say the same.

[ though at this point... there aren't really many "nice" memories archer has left of his home planet. a few faint ones, but not many. ]

But do those memories really have anything to do with the Earth? Would they have been any less meaningful if they'd taken place elsewhere?

[idealog]

One would hope so, I guess.

[ He purses his lips. Earth itself didn't have much to do with those memories, aside from just being there. The bad tended to outweigh the good. ]

I don't think they would have. If those memories took place somewhere else, the circumstances would probably be different.

[ Probably better. ]

See? Though I suppose people correlate memories to their locations all the same. Earth itself is nothing special.

[ says a guy literally contracted to the Earth to protect it for all time. ]

But I will say, I prefer it to this place. [ earth didn't have wildlife quite as exotic and bizarrely dangerous. ]

[idealog]

Sometimes locations can make all the difference. Not much at the Bunker was very memorable. [ As far as he knew, anyway. ]

I think most people do. I haven't really decided.

[fakers]

You have an astoundingly high tolerance to dangerous and unreasonable habitats, then.

...the Bunker?

[idealog]

[ He chuckles. ] That's pretty much all I know.

The Bunker was the satellite YoRHa operated from. I don't know if I'd call it home, but it was the closest thing to it.

[fakers]

And YoRHa was your... unit? I assume other beings like you?

[ maybe not the most tactful way to put it, but all the same. ]

[idealog]

My unit, yes. We were androids designed specifically to help fight in the war, so we had our own base of operations orbiting Earth. We could deploy to anywhere on Earth that we were needed, so it's not like we were there very often.

[fakers]

I see. Sounds like you were wrapped up in something more troublesome than I realized.

And this war... did you win? Or does it still continue, even now? [ a pause. ] Or at least, before all this.

[idealog]

Oh, it was a whole lot of trouble.

[ Understatement of more than one millennia, he's sure. ]

I... don't know. Things had changed recently, but then the Storm came. It's hard to say if anyone was really winning.

[fakers]

[ fighting an endless fight and never even tasting victory... well, he knows what that's like, but it's still pretty sad. ]

At least that no longer matters now, then.

[idealog]

... Yeah.

[ He doesn't miss it. ]

I don't think this place could be any worse than that.

[ Feel free to blame him if he just jinxed it and now everyone gets caught in an endless war. ]

[fakers]

I hope for all our sakes, you're correct.

[ he doesn't believe for a second you are, though. olympia definitely has enemies... and that's not even counting the greater threat the natha are tryin gto combat. ]

Regardless, be careful.

[ He can't totally shape his optimism, even knowing such a great threat is coming after the Natha. He's not ready for all that war again. But he's not entirely alone. ]
