It may simply be an impression with no basis in reality, but it seems to me that since the Natha have left, more people have returned to stasis.

[ he doesn't add "what do others think?" but the question is implied. ]

I find that few beliefs here have basis in reality. Dragons and the dead being ripped from their slumber, for instance, but they happen here all the same, no matter how deeply I find myself wishing that they did not.

I have never been good with numbers. People have often returned to stasis. Do you imply that there has been an increase since the departure of the Natha?

Have they?

[ It's not that he's questioning Nightingale, it's just that ]

I've been away for a while.

Indeed, they are! And dreaming is far different still. I, for one, dream of a time when I did not have to wish not to believe in the ridiculous things that I have seen in this place.

You have clearly kept your eyes keener than I have. If you think more have returned to stasis, what do you make of those who are waking? Are there fewer, or more, or the same?

[ Bucky doesn't immediately remember his conversation with Nightingale— it's been decades for him, but give him a few minutes and maybe something will spark. ]

You think the way they wake people up is slowing down without them?

I haven't been here long enough to judge that for myself, but that doesn't mean you're not on to something with that. It could very well be a strong contributing factor.

You assume correctly. No magic whatsoever, save for the way drinking too much wine makes the world go soft around the edges.

Then you believe there to be a connection? How miserable. Perhaps we will all return to stasis soon. I would not want to be the last man awake.

Sorry I can't help.

They don't have the message, when you wake up, anymore. The one where they promise to keep your friends safe.
[ Or whatever, but he only ever asked for the one thing. ]

But people wake up anyway.

It does feel like a lot of people have left, for better lack of wording.

I haven't been awake that long myself, but even I think it's a lot.

[ Especially when it affected her directly. ]

[There's no way for him to know how slowly and heavily she types a response, is there?]

I find myself in agreement, even if all my evidence is completely anecdotal. More people of my direct acquaintance have returned to stasis than before.

How many usually go back at a time? If it seems like an unusual amount now, the number must have been pretty low.

I'm sorry, then.

[ It must mean he's losing people, quickly. ]

My mother has been awake for over a year I think, she might have an idea. It seems like I was traded for her husband - I woke, and he went back to stasis.

I find it hard to judge that properly. I mean, there are a lot of refugees coming and going -- right? They seem to pretty much wake up all the time, and we have no proper way to track how many wake up. People who I know have been going back into stasis pretty much since I woke up, but I have no idea how many
people I don't know are at the same time. Maybe there's a way to get the station to give us some statistics? Though I don't know what that would tell us. It's supposed to be something to do with the storm, right?
