Yo.. so with the surface not really an option right now and all, my mercenary stuff is at a hold, and since I'm such a damn busy body I figured I'd see if anyone needed anything done around here.
My name's Duo Maxwell - good at anything to do with machinery, even if it's taking apart a bunch of tiny parts in a motor and piecing it back together, all that junk. If you doubt me and wanna see my handiwork, check out the huge black Gundam with the bat wings in the hangar. All of that is mine to fix and maintain.
I can do piloting / mech lessons as well if that's more your jam.
Also not a doctor but pretty good at field dressing, etc and definitely not squeamish if any of you doctor / healing types need a hand.
Not opposed to fetch missions either if you're feeling lazy and want a delivery boy.
Basically : Anything you need, hit me up.
Looking to keep my hands busy until we've got a bit more of an idea what's going on / mobility in general.

I suppose it’s only fair, since you’re coming to help.
[There is something nostalgic about zero gravity. Frustrating as it is, ship malfunctions like these are comforting in their familiarity, unlike cultists and dragons and storms that bend time and space. For once it’s nice to have a problem that seems so… normal.
She gives him her location—her room deep in one of the wings of the ship where refugees were housed before ending the call with a thank you. By the time he arrives, she’s busy with securing the modest amount of belongings she has, collecting pieces of her paladin armor that escaped from storage when the gravity turned off.]

Cool. See you in a little bit then.. [ Duo gives a little faux salute before he goes to collect all he could think to use for a malfunction and maybe a restart of the gravity system. He can't be one hundred percent sure that he'll have everything that he'll need, but it's better than going in with absolutely nothing.
And so Duo Maxwell will show up to Allura's part of the Natha's ship in time, with all of his tools in toe in a backpack that he carries, already feeling the way that gravity lets up a little as he approaches her doorway. He gives a knock as he arrives, not wanting to just barge right on in. ]
Hey Allura? It's Duo.
no subject
Ah— [She watches the piece of armor float uselessly to the other side of the room, before turning towards the door,] Duo. Thank you for coming so quickly.
[Using one hand to keep herself tethered near a wall, she gives Duo a friendly wave from up high.]

Looks like a little bit of a pickle in here, huh? [ Duo snickers lightly but is a bit like a fish to water in the zero gravity, giving himself a little push off as his feet begin to lift to snatch her armor that's floating off to shove it back toward her. He loves this kind of thing, even if he knows most people don't. Sue him - he enjoys most things that are off beat and difficult.
He's also... a kid from space who genuinely enjoys the space and nothingness of it. ]
So where's this panel you think needs some work done?
no subject
It's over here, [Her trajectory lands her near the floor, and she gently pushes back off again, finally catching herself with a free hand near a panel by the door. Carefully cradling the pieces of armor in the crook of her elbow, she uses her finger to poke at the display, pulling up the settings,] It's over here. I've reset it at least half a dozen times, but it keeps switching back off.
no subject
Well, I'm pretty sure that's true for all of us but it doesn't make the situation any less shitty. [ Duo laughs, as usual irreverent of the fact that he's speaking to a princess here and probably should clean up his language a little bit. He's a simple colony kid - he doesn't really think too much about that kind of stuff. It's almost funny if it wasn't so damn annoying to the other pilots nine times out of ten.
He follows where she's headed carefully, not wanting to run in to her back or anything as she's showing him, head tipping slightly to the side in thought. ]
Have ya pulled it apart at all? [ Because that's probably what he's about to do, swinging that tool bag off of his shoulder and using a bit of that propulsion to approach where Allura is.
The bag hits the wall with a clunk and stays - apparently outfitted with magnets to keep it in place while he's working. ]
Might have a loose wire that was messed up before and is tripping it out now..

She shakes her head,] That was my next step, [Even though she’s quite certain she would have zero idea what to do once in the guts of the system. She had passing knowledge of the inner workings of her own ship, but the Natha’s? A smile, as his bag of tools comes to rest on the wall beside them,] Luckily, Your message on the network came on at the perfect time.
[He actually looks like he knows what he's doing. She hopes.]
no subject
Yeah I always try to play with it the easy ways before tearing it apart but.. [ Duo shrugs, by now knowing too damn well just how squirrely machinery can be even when there's no reason for it to be. The good and bad thing about anything automated is just that - it follows its instructions to a tee because that's how it's programmed, but one small deviation and the thing can, no doubt, go a little while in short order.
Or cause a little havoc as Allura's case showed.
He smiles as she notes his message came just in time, shrugging lightly. ]
Well, don't give me any laurels before I actually get it fixed up, huh? Natha stuff can sometimes be a bit much for me.
[ Not that it stopped him.. just took a little longer. Duo pulls a tool from his hair first - a small hair clip, it appeared...
Perfect for jimmying under things like metal panels. Which is exactly what he does until it pops off. ]

[The orbiters seem like they have a lot on their plate to come fix simple mechanical issues in a single refugee's room.
While Duo gets started, Allura intended to go stow the rest of her armor away, but instead she lingers (literally hovering behind him) as she watches him work, trying to somehow glean anything of what he's doing.]
Most of the repair work on my ship was handled by Coran—our flightmaster. Or Pidge, one of the paladins.
[And after that there was Hunk and... she fell pretty low on the list of people to turn to for mechanical maintenance.]
no subject
Better find somethin to tether with.. [ Duo teases with a little laugh and a grin, despite the fact that he's already managed to break his way in to her panel with the ease of a practiced thief. Which is exactly what he is, but well. There's not really been a reason to show as much until now. ]
Ah.. so you've got a list of people ahead of you then, huh? [ Made sense, honestly. He'd be shocked if someone that he could best equate with Relena Peacecraft was also the mechanic on the ship. Not that he thought her incapable of it, just..
Well there were such things as types of people in the world. Another small proective panel gives way under a small screw driver and hat hair pin, and soon Duo is down to the wires beneath it all, humming slightly as he inspects. ]
Well, everything around here looks pretty consistently new, so that's a good sign I guess.
no subject
[It's not as self deprecating as it might sound. Just as one would not go to the mechanic for matters of delicate intergalactic diplomacy, the princess is not the first, nor the second, third, or fourth person you would go to for mechanical know-how. (Plus the mice have the advantage of size).
It doesn't mean she didn't have an interest in learning, though. She watches as he jimmies the panel open, exposing the wires within.]
Do you see what the problem could be?
no subject
Eh.. not everyone can be a mechanic. Different talents and all, you know? [ Of course Duo's talents were kind of learned out of necessity at first, but he'd found within that necessity a talent and a knack for learning on the fly, which had of course fed in to his gundam training.
Allura asks after what he'd found and Duo makes a non-committal noise, fishing around a little deeper. ]
Everything looks normal so far.. hold on a sec - [ Small fingers dig in to the panel a little further, rooting out a wire that looks as though it's started to pull apart, wires fraying out. Duo moves to show Allura, smiling. ]
Well this might be your culprit, huh?
Sorry I died for a few days!
Incredible, that something so small could cause such a big problem. [It made her appreciate all of the expertise that went into making her ship from back home.]
Will it be easy to fix?
it's cool i've been the same with Otakon crunch and such.. x_x
That's really all it takes sometimes. Even if it's still sending electrical it can make he board think there's a larger problem and it'll shut itself down to try and preserve the part and operations.
[ Most machines are generally the same in that aspect - they like to operate under best conditions and tended to give anyone hell who didn't really fit that bill to the tee like they liked.
Duo reaches in his bag, rooting around mostly by touch for a moment before he answers her question -
Which comes with a little 'ah!' as he pulls a little tape free. ]
Well, if this works then yeah. Mostly just gotta not get shocked in the mean time, you know? Not that it would be my first time getting a jolt but it's ever a whole lotta fun..
[ For now, though, he's carefully tucking wires back in to place with a set of needle nose pliers with some kind of insulation on the handles, methodical to a tee. ]
:o! Same! Good luck with getting everything ready in time!
He pulls out the tape and she's just about to comment on how simple a solution when he next mentions being shocked, and her eyes go wide with concern. She reaches out, hand on his shoulder,] Please don't get yourself hurt—
[On second thought, maybe she's making it more likely that he'll shock himself, by being a distraction, and she withdraws her hand just as quickly, not quite sure what to do with herself to be the most helpful.] If you need additional equipment to do this safely, do not rush for my sake.
I'm 95% there thankfully! lol
[ Duo, in typical form, laughs despite Allura's concern at the thought of being shocked. Listen, you go through enough Alliance beat up sessions and something simple like being shocked doesn't seem like too much of a big deal. Sure, they can be just as serious as the other, but with the jovial way Duo shrugs and snickers to himself. ]
I'll survive. Been through worse than a little shock, anyways - [ He pauses, and then notes: ] Plus this set of pliers has grips on it that should stop it.
I like working with my hands as much as possible anyways. It's how I learned to do things, so.
[ With things tucked away as best as possible Duo starts on phase two - which is, of course, starting the tape and then beginning to carefully wind it around the wire, making sure to leave no spaces open as he does so. ]
Let's hope with this fixed and a reset your gravity control will be back to normal..
