( video ) uns: maxwell & jtk | thesa : ready up
[ Video greetings from Jim Kirk and Duo Maxwell, who are both in what looks like one of the various tech rooms on Thesa Station. The only lights are emergency ones and glittering bits from the computers themselves. In the background, the blaring sound of an alarm siren is audible, though it's been muffled in here (possibly by someone disconnecting the speaker or shoving a sock over it, who knows).
Jim begins: ] As you're aware, the Natha left Thesa a few weeks ago, and the station has been in a state of low-power ever since. Stable, just running quieter. Today, though - [ he thumbs over his shoulder. ] Full-on emergency mode.
[ Here's where the braided pilot finally chips in, looking away from the screen he’s been typing and swiping away at in the background, throwing his braid over his shoulder with his typical candor, blue eyes finally turning to the camera to look at it instead of rudely staring off to the side to see what he could diagnose. ]
So, from what I can gather there’s nothin’ going on with the ship that would typically trigger emergency mode like this. Electricity is as stable as it’s gonna get, the shields are all up and there’s nothin’ within immediate range of the ship that the sensors show as a threat.. [ Duo pauses, clicks a few more buttons with a crease in his brow of concentration - ] .. so, yeah, there’s no obvious reason this is happening other than maybe the fact the Natha are gone for ..
[ A flick of a hand. ] .. Whatever they’re gone for.
But… [ There’s some weight to this, and that usually jovial or smirking face is dead serious as he looks back to the screen. ] .. all the training equipment is stuck in a conflict mode to teach people how to fight. Both physical combat as well as the flight modules for people who want to be that eager about it.
If anyone has any experience or clearances for the Natha’s mobile suits there’s training modules for that, and I’d be happy to offer to let you go against my mobile suit with the promise I’ll treat ya nice and gentle. [ Duo grins in that cocky way again, turning to Jim as if saying he’s done from here. ]
Following that, [ Jim says, exchanging a look with Duo, ] if anyone has spacecraft or advanced computer experience would like to come and be briefed on the situation, you're encouraged to do so, in case something happens to necessitate defending Thesa. [ The worry isn't just Thesa itself, of course, but the people asleep up here. ] I know most of us are focused on what's happening with the potential for a resurrected dragon, and this is horrible timing. Hopefully it'll remain a preventative measure up here.
Thanks.
[ Duo gives a little bit of a ‘saluting’ motion, though it’s clearly not military grade before turning back to his screens. ]
Looks like we’ll do best to be prepared on both fronts – everyone better be ready.

Which I suppose would imply they've gone up against it before if there's preparations in place for its return.
[Mipha shakes her head, expression grim, but determined.] I'll start stockpiling what I can from the clinic. If Ruta was activated I might be more help... [GIANT MECHA ELEPHANT VS. GIANT DRAGON? SIGN HER UP.]

Yo Mipha, long time no chat.. [ Duo of course has to respond to her, still tapping away at a screen off to the side. Might as well try to get through as many systems safely as he can, learn as much as he can, much as he had in Khalo with the books there while he'd been. ]
That would imply that the Natha have either heard stories about it passed down or they're literally millennia old, right? Isn't that dragon super old?
[ But then he hums, nodding at her consideration. ]
Sounds like a good plan. Might need them if push comes to shove. I have Deathscythe now so I can drop back down to the planet if things go south and see what I can do..

I wouldn't be surprised if they were that long-lived, meddling in the affairs here before we can even think of. They do seem to have some sort of stake in this planet--they clearly didn't choose it at random hen figuring out where to place us all.
I also wouldn't be surprised if they'd had something to do with its death all that time ago either.

So far as I can tell, emergency mode is just.. this. The same electricity wise but there's power going to sirens now.
[ Which is good for them, really, because they don't have to scramble to secure power for the pods and all of that in a real hurry. That's what he's most concerned about, with a few people from his world quietly sleeping in pods right now that he'd like to see again. ]
I'm monitoring the power supply right now and trying to steady and maintain as much as possible. Wouldn't turn down another set of hands to help, though, if you wanted to come up.
[ And, well, he kinda believes in Mantis after the whole not letting him give up on the mountain thing not that long ago. ]

I can come up. If nothing else, I can help monitor while people who know what they are doing are working.

[ Well, if that isn't a goddamn bitch of an unsatisfactory situation. ]
You think Thesa needs us more right now?
1/2
There's no identified threat up here. This is a precaution. Unlike on the planet - [ he shrugs. Rasyc, dragon. And looks over his shoulder at Duo-- ]
2/2
But Jim's right. The threat to the plant is greater because the threat is confirmed. Here the 'threat' could literally just be the ship pitching a fit because someone isn't here that knows all it's little maintenance needs.
Or the Natha's way of experimenting and seeing if we could work it out without them.
no subject
Guess there's not much we can do up there beisdes wait 'n' see, huh? The dragon's the bigger threat right now.
[ Although... ]
Hey, I-I know this is gonna sound crazy, but...couldn't we just evacuate all of Wyver and Olympia up the the station while Ysverai does his thing? Not like the Natha are here to tell us not to. Kinda getting tired of keeping them a secret, anyway.

[Could the dragon be that powerful? Or does the Natha know something that everyone else doesn't (a much more likely situation).]
In any case, I have experience with spacecrafts. Although my Lion is missing, I am sure I could learn to pilot something else, if the need arises.
permavid on this end
The Natha did leave before the heart was stolen, though. [ Still, it's something to keep an eye on. Being closed off to ideas helps no-one. ]
Lion. Is it a suit like the ones up here?
no subject
[Perhaps she's paranoid. She's seen a few too many missions with multiple fronts to totally dismiss the possibility that they are linked somehow.]
My lion is... [It's complicated,] It's like a small ship. Big enough to hold a few people but only one pilot.
[Oh only if Blue were here. She'd feel a lot better about the threat of a dragon if she was properly outfitted.]

( a contribution of quality. clearly of vital importance. dutch didn't break thesa station, stop the press.
on a more serious note: ) might be good to establish some kind of rota so someone can sound the alarm if anyone or anything comes for the stasis chamber
un : maxwell
Well that doesn't make me suspicious at all.
That's a great idea, actually. I'll see what I can do about alarming the power source so we'll know if it fails as soon as it does.. so far as going in I guess we'll just have to see if we can rig a motion sensor of some kind...
Shouldn't be too hard I don't think.
no subject
( hopefully, the sarcasm translates both ways despite the text. )
motion sensor might be tripped by anyone showing up to check on their friends. can you connect it to cameras?

I've spacecraft experience, both in rocketry and in piloting. I've piloted mobile suits before but I find I'm better controlling something that has wings.
permavid
Would the tandem shuttles work better for you than the mobile suits?
video;
I believe they would, yes. At the very least I'm more confident with a shuttle than I am a suit.

[He's an experienced pilot, experienced with war and the like. While he may not know exactly what he's going to be up against or why, he knows enough people here and there to want to defend the place.
Old habit or something. He could be slightly more specific provided the options (suits vs computers), but he'll wait on technicalities.]

[ Well there’s a familiar face. Duo gives a bit of a smirk and a nod, knowing that Keith isn’t necessarily a very talkative person. Thankfully he’s used to that with a particularly quiet fellow pilot of his own.
Sounds like a plan to me. You coming up to Thesa or handling things down on planet?
If you can pilot we may want to have all hands on deck.

Honestly, this whole dragon zombie business is turning out to be a huge pain. ]
I've got your knowledge and experience right here, but no clearance and Ryo-Ohki is still napping up there. Can't say that's ever stopped me, though. I'll be up in a minute.
no subject
Glad to have you, [ Jim says, entirely honest. ] I haven't been around long enough to get clearance into the restricted areas either, but I work in space, so-- [ he shrugs. ] The training modules being open makes me think it may not matter too much if this emergency protocol has a second stage.
