[ An rather large older man settles before the camera, his face utterly serious. Those who know him usually see him with a huge smile and a ready laugh. They aren't there, which means he means business. He takes a breath and starts ]

With all this talk of dragons coming back from the dead and what we need to do about it, I am wondering. Have we considered how we will protect the people? Should the worst come to pass, we need a way to make sure that the citizens of both cities can flee in a safe and orderly manner. The last thing anyone needs is panic in the streets.

We need an evacuation plan and a place for everyone to go after. For both cities. We need the rulers to insure that such a plan is in place and that the proper support is given to it.

I might have an idea, but I need to know who here knows how fight in a shield wall. Who has shielding magic. How many of us can, even for a few moments time, block an attack to buy time? Because I am proposing that we line an escape route with a shield wall so that the women and the children and the old and the sick and all those that do not wish to or cannot fight can get out safely before everything is burned.

A town can rebuild from ashes. But only if the people survive to do so.

[Between Reinhardt and Reinhardtzar, Dylas is going to end up with a broken back. Dylas' ears go flat. He's a mad horse.]

There are other things that stupid form is good for! And if it were for you or one of your plans, I'd be okay with it. I'm never going to let anyone ride me again, dammit.

[ I'm not saying Reinhardt isn't a little disappointed, because he is. He'd love to ride Dylas again, but he has a horse and the other man's magic can be more useful elsewhere that's not being sat on by an old knight. Still, he wants to ride the murder pony again!!]

First of all, it's not stupid. I stand by my words. It's amazing. Strong. Noble. Beautiful. And if you wished to take that form to help me fight the dragon, I would be honored.

['Beautiful'? Him? He's glad he chose to use the voice function. If Reinhardt could see him right now, cheeks colored so red, he'd melt into the floor.]

How can you say something like that to a guy like me? I don't know how to respond.

[He sighs. On the other end of the phone, his ears are twitching.]

If I'm going to fight for someone, I want it to be you. No matter what form I'm in. That's why I answered. You can use either of my bodies however you see fit.

What do you mean, a guy like you. It's because you are a guy like you! Because you are you. And because it's true. Dylas. It's part of the Code. As a knight, my words speak only truth. So when I say you are, it is because this is the truth. There is no shame in being so. And you don't have to respond. Just know that there is a knight that thinks you are astounding.

Thank you. I hope that we are overthinking this undead dragon thing, but after the Crisis...after Eichenwalde, I've come to expect the worst. So we will likely have to fight this thing and when I do, I will know I have the most noble of men at my side, lending me his powerful magic.

[This is too much. There's an annoyed grunt on his end. Reinhardt, please! He can't take much more of this.]

A guy like me...would be an asshole who doesn't know how to take compliments, I guess. Even if they're from you. For what it's worth, I think you're pretty astounding and one-of-a-kind, too. It's just that those aren't the only words I'd use to describe you.

[He's teasing. He probably won't call Reinhardt anything negative today, but it's in his nature to threaten that he might. But...]

What's Eichenwalde?

[ Too bad. He's not going to stop. ]

Thank you. You honor me.

[ He's going to ignore that it would be insults. Instead, his voice gets soft. Soft and very much serious. It's such an abrupt departure from his loud and jovial tones normally. ]

Eichenwalde was a castle and the location of a decisive battle in my world. It's where my King and all my Brothers stood against the onslaught of a foe we had no hope of defeating. I was young and stupid and went off half-cocked and nearly got myself killed. Instead, I got my King killed. My king and the rest of the Crusaders. I was one of the few of my order that survived that battle. We won. We bought enough time for my country to mount a counter attack and defeat our enemy, but the price was 57 of my brothers and sisters in arms as well as the man I loved more than anything in the world. That is Eichenwalde.

Eichenwalde was one victory in a war that lasted too long before and even longer after. A war I have been fighting in one form or another for the last 30 years of my life.

[t's Dylas' turn to be quiet. He's not really sure what to say here. He can relate to doing really stupid, foolish things. But losing someone that important to him? Or even his king, or that many people...he can't imagine living with that kind of guilt.

He wishes this conversation were in person. He decides that's as good a place to start as any.]

[He takes a breath before continuing. Sappy shit is hard for him, and he's sure it's not what Reinhardt wants, so he tries to keep it focused on just the two of them.]

For being you, despite...or in addition to...everything. I'm glad you're still here and fighting.

[ He makes a soft sound, it's almost like a sigh. It's a hurt that never goes away. A lesson he'll never forget. ]

You know where to find me, ja? And now you know how I came to be missing an eye. But it was his dying wish that I "be their shield" so I will be. As long as there are people that need a knight and so long as I have breath, I will fight.

[ Even when he can't stand anymore he will. ]

And I am just glad to know that there are other strong and noble warriors that will fight for honor and for the people as well. You said you would stand with me and that makes you one of those warriors. So don't discount yourself, Dylas. You might not be knighted, but in your heart, you know what is right.

So should the dragon come and should we stand on the field of combat, I will count myself fortunate to know I stand next to a warrior like you.

Actually...I don't know where to find you. Your house is mobile, isn't it? But if you want me to come over sometime, I don't mind. Just don't tell Grani I'm coming.

[He just needs to point that out. But continuing on with the rest of the statements, he's still...not sure what to say. Reinhardt has shared something deeply personal with him. Should he share something back? He would, if he was asked to, but...]

I'm not cut out to be a knight, so that's fine. But I don't mind being a warrior, if you think it'll be useful to you. Or a horse warrior. Whatever the situation calls for. Just help me stash some clothes somewhere first, alright?

I don't know anything about shield walls but I don't mind protecting anyone being evacuated or escaping.

Ahhh. My soon to be knight in training, I would be happy to teach you the shield wall. I know that a fierce fighter such as yourself would be very valuable indeed and that you were help a great many people.

[Pff. He actually manages to make Mai conjure up a heated flush. Her voice is incredulous and snarky enough to bury down the rush of embarrassment. ~~And maybe pride but shh, don't tell anyone.~~]

Only when I feel they deserve it. I feel you deserve it. If you don't wish them, I will stop. It will be hard, because I believe you are a worthy squire and will make a great knight. But if you wish me not to...I will only say them to myself.

I can create a shield for a while, but I don't know how long I could hold off a dragon.

[This is assuming, of course, that she doesn't get immediately snapped up to try to stop the cultists, or failing that, fight said dragon.]

I don't know how long any of us can, but we need to try. We need to do whatever we can. [ He would love to fight the dragon. Like, it's been his dreams since he was a small child, He's imagined it forever. But he knows that he's needed as a shield wall more. ] The lives of countless innocent people are at stake.

I can manipulate fire, so I might be able to offer some damage control, but honestly I've never gone toe to toe with a dragon, so I can't promise how useful my skills might be in this particular situation.

Damage control is really important. The more people we can shield the better. As for dragon fire, we can't know until we try. I've never tried my barrier against a dragon for real, but I'll hold as long as I can to make sure the people get out alive. I would appreciate your helping.

I'll do what I can. I'm no hero, but this is one barbecue I think I'd rather cancel before it's thrown.

[Now that she has access to her paladin armor...]

I may be able to assist. But we should consider evacuating before there is a need for a shield wall.

I considered that, but we don't know when it will happen. If it would happen. I wouldn't want to disrupt these people's lives. Because there's also no telling when they could return. It could be a long time. However, letting the people know what's coming, they can plan and leave sooner. But those who stay, they will need the help and I would appreciate your assistance, my lady.

I can't say I know much about fighting in any sort of formation. But I have some skill with knives that could be put to use fending off close-range attacks.

Though, as others have said, I can't claim to have fought anything as large as a dragon.

[Normally he would never throw himself in harm's way like this for people he doesn't care about, but...you know, trying to look like a Good Guy.]

Any skill would be good to have. I would hope we wouldn't have to deal with such things, but bandits would surely take advantage of citizens fleeing from the cities. I would appreciate your deft hand with a blade and I can teach you how to hold a shield if you wish that too.

[...The idea of Peter deterring bandits is kind of humorous, considering who he is and what he does. But sure, sure.]

It seems like it might be a skill worth learning, here.

it's cute how you assume women need to be evacuated

I think you misunderstand me. I know that there are women that are more than capable. In fact, I know quite a few women who could kick my butt without breaking a sweat. Those are not the women I am worried for and I hope they would be willing to help me help the ones I am concerned about.

As a knight, there is a sacred duty that I uphold more than any other. Protecting the innocent and guarding those that cannot or will not fight. Be they a man or a woman or anyone in between. I made a vow and I only hope that there will be those out there like me that will be willing to stand with me. It might mean our deaths, but we will die knowing that we saved thousands.
