[The voice on the other end is a girl's, and even if she sounds young, she sounds drained. Way more than a girl her age should probably sound.] Yeah, I have. My dad was a ship captain; I grew up right by the sea. I haven't gone on any really long voyages, but they can't be that different, yeah?

[otiosity]

Ah.

[Clearly Hawke had expected more of a flight of fancy from stories or something like that.]

I don't know. I've only been out to sea once on a long voyage and it was... not the best experience I've had in my life. In fact, it's definitely near the bottom.

[ayes]

Really? What happened? I've loved every time I went out on the ocean. There's just something about it that's, uh... nice, I guess.

[otiosity]

Admittedly I was in the bottom of the ship so I didn't get to see the ocean much. And I learned I get impressively seasick! Impressive but not pretty or pleasant.

Though my friend Isabela is just like you. Perhaps some of us just were born without sea legs.

[ayes]

Oh-- you know Miss Isabela, too? Was it her ship you were on? That can happen if you're not used to it, so maybe you could... get used to it? I don't really know how that works, since I've always been okay as long as I can remember.

[otiosity]

No, it was a year before I met her. I'd probably have been better off in her hands though. Don't tell her I said that though or she'll hound me until I go on a voyage with her.

[There's something hilarious about hearing "Miss Isabela" and Hawke can't keep the amusement out of her voice.]

I suppose you're a natural born sailor. Me, though, I was leaving my home because terrible things were happening there and I was hoping that there was a better place out there. Like you are now. So I can't pretend I don't know how you feel.

[ayes]

[Isabela is a cool lady!! Who You admires a lot!! So she is definitely a "Miss"!!]

I don't know if it's because I just want a better place... I mean, maybe a little, but-- [You sighs, softly but audibly.] --don't you think that maybe us being here is making it worse between Olympia and Wyver? So maybe they can't find peace because we're making things worse, in a way.

I don't know what we'd find or if it'd be better at all, but it'd give us like... more options, you know?

D'you think Miss Isabela would want to come?

[otiosity]

I can't say I haven't thought that. But sometimes two sides are just determined to keep going at each other and continuing petty fights and not really caring that no one else wants to be bothered by it.

And I'm sure she would. Any chance to be out at sea.

[ayes]

I'm not really good with like, politics or history or anything like that. But I can't think of anything we can do to make them like each other. I wish I could, but I can't. [And she sounds legitimately frustrated by this. You sighs again. It's louder this time.] She's really cool... I've never captained a ship before so it'd probably be good to have someone like her.

[otiosity]

Me either. But people who seem to be good at politics aren't often the sort of people you'd want to be. Too much backstabbing and boring speeches. Really long boring speeches.

[Hawke is sympathetic but she's the sort of person who runs the opposite way from any hint of politics.]

I'd definitely never go out to sea without Isabela.

[ayes]

Yeah... but I still wish there was something I could do to help, you know?

--hey, d'you know anyone else who might be good to have on a ship? A modern one, not an old-timey sailing ship.

[otiosity]

I don't.

But I imagine there's a lot of people who probably think getting the hell out of here isn't a bad idea.

[ayes]

Probably. It's... I dunno, it's rough here.

I feel like someone would have done it before, though. Maybe there's something we don't know about.
