[text/video] un: linneus
Good day, everyone.
While I hate for my second of these... missives to be another message asking for help, I fear that is precisely what it is and I do beg your patience.
I recently came home to find a large egg sitting on my doorstep. With little idea what to do I brought it home, kept it swaddled and warm and eventually it hatched. The animal that emerged... I have never seen its like before. It appears to be a sort of horse, but much shorter, with a longer neck and a smaller face. And a good deal... fluffier? Than any horse I've ever seen.
She has taken well to eating grass, and has shown to particularly favour munching on my flowerbeds. It seems she is managing well enough - flourishing, even. But I had hoped someone might enlighten me as to what kind of creature she is, and whether there might be other foods I can provide for her?
Also a name - I confess I have always struggled terribly with naming things! So any suggestions would be quite welcomed.
[the text is followed up by a brief video clip - slightly wobbly, as Linneus turns the camera on himself-]
So that you have an idea of what it is you are naming...
[turning the camera around, the scene is quite cosy now that his home is settled again. A fire crackles away, and there is a small table near his armchair bearing a cup of tea, his feet resting on a small stool. The cosiness would be complete perhaps with a blanket, but his "creature", dozing with her head on his lap, is more than making up for the lack of one.
To those familiar, a llama indoors is probably a strange sight - stranger still this llama's size, as she can't be more than three feet tall. She snores, and there is the sound of Linneus chuckling softly before the video feed is cut.]
((Please feel free to flood Linn with name suggestions for the miniature llama he now has? ))

It looks kind of like a llama! A lot smaller, but that doesn't say much on this planet...

[lingering doubly over those l’s, a little amusement in his voice and his hand ruffles the little mop of fluff on the creature’s head]
So that’s what you are?
I’m afraid I don’t know this animal. Can you tell me more?
no subject
[Quick, think of something more! Something fun!]
And they spit!
[Nailed it.]
I have direct experience of this :/
But she is actually quite good at taking instructions, not doing something if I tell her. We managed to get through the day without her troubling my flowers.
[more precisely what is left of them...]
oh God, my sympathies :/

In a parallel world, Linneus uses the name, messes up the intonation. Calls her "spider" every time.
I mean, if you have ant lions, why not spider llamas?

[ Never mind that Reign was over here fawning and cooing over the tiny llama. ]
She's hatched from an egg as well? Hm, funny how some of us received these strange eggs. I would have suggested "Cotton", but she doesn't have the look. What about "Woolie"?
no subject
[a gentle note of amusement threading through his voice.]
Yes, the eggs are strange indeed - and quite unexpected.
[this is not... the kind of pet he would have picked for himself. But while he still hasn't quite an idea of what to do with her, his fondness of the odd creature is clear.]
I like Cotton, actually, but how is it she doesn't have the look? She is quite fluffy enough...
no subject
[ It was only right! ]
A friend of mine also had his pet tiger hatched from an egg, and I've got one myself too recently.
[ There must be some kind of explanation for this, though Reign didn't know what. ]
Hm, she is indeed. But I'd suggested that name before to someone asking suggestions for a cat. It would be more special if the name is uncommon. What about "Cotton Candy"? She does kind of remind me of it.
no subject
But a pet tiger...
[there's a sense of wonder in his voice - someone has only ever seen tigers illustrated in books]
Are tigers not terribly wild and dangerous?

you should call it akuma, because something that cute could only be secretly evil
it's already eaten your flowers with impunity, that's probably just step one of its master plan
text
[a pause while he tries it out loud, seeing how the creature reacts-]
I'm not sure she's an Akuma. Though I agree she is rather too sweet.

[kagari's never had a pet to name before, he is somewhat Unpracticed.]
maybe something like yuki-onna? since its fur looks kinda like snow
[stop telling linneus to name it after demons.....]
no subject
Isn't that... a bit of a mouthful?
[he's not sure how it relates to snow, either, but he'll just... assume it to be a foreign language issue.]
She came to me on a snowy day, but I discarded Snowy as an option. I seemed... I don't know, it lacked creativity, somehow.
She should have a better name, but I haven't thought of one yet.

It's like a small llama, or perhaps an alpaca? I can't quite tell at that size.
What types of names do you like, Linneus?
no subject
I shall look into both of these animals. What is the difference between them?
((Ah, Linneus, a question for the ages...)no subject
That said, I've never seen one in person, myself, so my knowledge is purely academic.

Were you able to figure out a name?
no subject
No, I've not settled on one just yet. The names I have noted are either overly literal or entirely ironic. One young gentleman suggested "Peace" but, well... I'm not sure I will be able to use to for this one with a straight face. Not while she snores so!
